These sign pens are becoming my favorites, because they feel right in my hand,
and write so well. I like broad nibs in fountain pens, but sometimes they put
down too much ink. These make a nice broad line, but don't leave pools of ink
behind. Plus you can replace the tips if they wear out, or add a highlighter
tip, instead of tossing the pen in the trash.

Platinum Preppy Ink Tip Refillable Sign Marker Pen - 5 Color Set
Excellent pens. Best of all, you can buy rubber o-rings and convert these sign
pens to accept ink such as Noodler's (see the jetpens article on converting the
platinum preppy fountain pens to eye dropper fountain pens - the same o-ring
size works on the sign pens). The converted pens produce a great look when you
use the electric/highlighter inks (I've tried Lightning Blue, St. Patty's Eire,
Hellfire and Year of the Golden Pig). The writing also looks good with regular
Noodler's ink (I've tried Ottoman Azure and Gruene Cactus). Since the felt tips
are replaceable, the ink options are limitless. Great pen, the tip is fairly
fine for a sign pen, and the transparent body allows you to see how much ink you
have left... and it's a beautiful pen!

Fantastic as an eyedropper
I did not try the included cartridge. Instead I converted it to an eyedropper
and loaded it up with Dr. Ph. Martin;s Black Star HiCard.
I like this combo a lot better than the Sharpies provide at our office for Agile
Story Card planning. It makes a bold but crisp line. No wear yet on the tip.

This is just an update and idea-
I took to traveling to class with this pen, and it leaks ink similarly to a
fountain pen, such as if you move it quickly or drop it accidentally, then ink
will make a Jackson Pollock painting inside the cap or on another hapless
object.
A great use of this pen is to take a razor knife and modify the replaceable nib
to have more varying angles and widths. (think of a quill pen) This makes the
pen much more comfortable and expressive to use.

I did really like the design and performance of Preppy sign pens. In fact, they
appear to work very well with converters and Noodler's ink.
However, there's a serious problem that plagues them: the plastic enclosure is
quite flimsy. One of the pens I have have already cracked, even though I was
especially careful not to apply any excessive pressure.

This is a good pen with a nice, vibrant color. I like that it can be refilled
with a color of my choice. The only fault I find is the tip being slightly
scratchy.

This pen writes very nice.. however, that's about it..
The plastic is brittle, and since the cap is stopped by the width of the barrel,
this has already cracked as others have pointed out. It looks like the inner
lining doubles to catch the end without having it wedged tight, but it doesn't.
Also, be careful with the refill feature, I barely screwed the bottom to the
top, and I can't get it off with normal force, I'm afraid I'll hear a crack if I
pry harder...
And yes, the ink is pink.. well.. not really. The ink is red, a nice red, but
the pen is too wet. Writing gives you a diluted red, or a 'pink'. If you trace
over it about a minute per trace, you will have a nice red line in 3 minutes.
Try and rush it, and the drenched paper rolls onto the pen. Does the same thing
from cheap .50 per 500 school notebook paper to maruman. Same if you try and
draw a filled in circle and aren't perfect. Not worth the hassle. Still looks
nice, but I have no use for a pink writing pen.
I tried drying it out, but no use. Still wet and pink. I've been using it for
useless things like sign in sheets for students...
Writing - uneven color
Drawing, not so great if you plan on going over the same place twice.
Feels really nice on the paper, until you go over a spot and can feel it
dragging.
Could be very good with another brand ink, but I'm not sure..

+ The ink color on this is GREAT!
+ Writes immediately
+ Writes with a lovely, thick line
+ Cheap!
- Tends to eat through ink quickly (due to the marker tip)
I have found I don't use this "marker" as much as I thought I would, and I
actually find myself saving the ink refills for my Preppy fountain pen in purple
instead. (I have a pink version as well, and I'm doing the same thing with
that!)
Still, this is a wonderful purple color and a cheap pen to try out if you are
interested in how it works.

Very nice solid, bold, sky blueish color. Writes a tiny bit darker than what
*my* monitor shows. Smooth writing, and the pen just looks all-around modern and
space-agey. There seems to be a tiny bb in the ink well that, I'm guessing,
stirs the ink inside, so shaking it you will hear and feel it. I think it just
adds to the space age theme of the pen.

I was hoping for more of a felt tip pen but it really is what it sounds like...a
marker :P. These are really noticable, great color, and writes a rather thick
line that's not too good for daily writing but for crafts and projects this
would be great! I use mine to mark thigns like calendars, writing extra-large
notes of the most important things...etc. A nice buy since it's a great color
and I can refill as I run out!

Just got my first Preppy Sign Marker in Red. I'm excited about the design since
my kids end up using up the red markers in sets first and then I have to buy a
whole new set just for the red. However, the color isn't nearly as vibrant as I
had hoped for. Any ideas why? Does it just take a while for the ink to
intensify?

Platinum Preppy Ink Tip Refillable Sign Marker Pen - Black
For the price- this is a steal. The pen tip has a bit of a scratchy feel as it
moves across the paper, which I hope changes with wear, but the ink flow is
great, and works similarly to the papermate 'flair' felt tip pen. The ink
cartridge has a small marble on the end, which when inserted into the pen, rolls
into the cartridge and apparently keeps the ink flow moving proper.
Great buy!

I am one of the people who asked for these pens and I am so happy JetPens got
them in stock. I just love them!! All of the Platinum Preppy pens are great. Now
we just need to get JetPens to order ink refills for the highlighters and these
new sign pens, plus replacement points. These wrote a very nice bold line which
is fairly fine line for a marker pen. They do not bleed through the paper like
Sharpy does. All in all I love them!!
