I have had this pencil for over a year now and I have to say it is exceptional. The build quality is excellent and feels heavy in the hand without being exhausting to write with. The advancing mechanism is solid, and has only jammed on me once (it cleared easily though). The pictures don't do it justice, The look of this pencil is spectacular. I loved the name of it and how it was engraved into the clip.

This pencil has lasted me well through extensive writing and maths (Engineering Student) and I'm sure it will continue to last as long as I continue to treat it well.

This pencil is well balanced and very functional. I don't think the pictures do this pencil justice as the body of this pencil is one solid piece of material and feels very sturdy. The retractible metal sleeve that supports the lead was well designed and works flawlessly. When not in use, the sleeve can be retracted into the body of the pencil making it a little easier to carry in a pocket or sleeve.

Overall, I was impressed with this Retro 51 Pencil.

Very high quality pencil. Well balanced and appreciate the retractable nub. A bit expensive but worth it.

Great pencil. A pleasure to use with just the right weight. I like the retractable aspect since it allows me to put it in my shirt pocket without the potential that the lead will puncture or tear my pocket. Worth the money.

Excellent mechanical pencil, I prefer this type of pencil with sliding sleeve, because is safer to carry in a shirt pocket at work. I feel it is well balanced and like the eraser cap with the 51 stamping inscription nicely done..

The Hex-o-Matic is a solid pencil that competes with the Rotring Rapid Pro and Rotring 800 at a much lower price point. It is lighter than the Rapid Pro, which is my only complaint on the Rapid Pro. It is about the same weight as the 800. The knurling is a nice balance between "sharp" and smooth. The lead sleeve is retractable AND sliding. Nearly the entire pencil is metal construction, including most of the interior and the clutch.

My only concern with it is that it is susceptible to having lead being unintentionally sliding back up the clutch. This is most pronounced with harder leads. I contacted Retro 51 with the concern and they suggested cleaning it with the lead jam clearer. Normally that wouldn't affect a problem like this but it DID work. I have mine loaded with 2B Pentel Ain Stein, which is my preferred grade and brand anyway. But note that that is the only drawback that I see to this piece. If weight matters to you, I recommend this to you over the Rapid Pro. If weight doesn't matter, get a Rapid Pro. If price matters to you (duh), this is a better buy over an 800.

This is a good quality mechanical pencil that has a good heft and sturdy build. It reminds me of a Rotring 600
but with an adjustable sleeve tip. Yes the sleeve tip length can be adjusted if you are deliberate with the use of
the eraser knocker push button. I find this feature useful for extended writing tasks. I am an engineering student
and write a lot. The lead extension mechanism is well made and makes a nice positive click when you extend
the lead bit by bit. Each click extends the leaf about 0.75mm.

The grip is knurled as stated in the description but feels very thin in my hand. I am very disappointed with how
small in diameter the grip is as the original description (when I purchased the pencil) suggested that
it was 8.5mm.

The new detailed description states 8.2mm but I measured 8.15mm. Also the max diameter is 9.5mm not
including the pocket clip.

Overall I think this is a nice pencil but I can't use it very much as the grip is too small for my hand.
