Convenient chalk holder keeps hands free from dust. Holder includes a magnet to attach onto steel surfaces. Extend chalk with a click of the top.

The manufacturer of this product, Japan Rikagaku Industry, was established in 1937 on the belief that every human being needs to “be loved, be useful, be praised and be needed”. The company chose to manufacture chalk made from calcium carbonate because there was an indication that teachers who used chalk had a higher probability of tuberculosis than others. In 1953, the resulting dustless chalk was the only one approved by the Educational Ministry of Japan. In their two factories, Rikagaku employs people often overlooked by society. In the Kawasaki factory, there are 48 employees in total: 22 severe mentally-disabled people and 9 mildly mentally disabled people. In the Misaki factory, there are 28 employees in total: 13 severe mentally-disabled people and 9 mildly mentally disabled people. The company has a model blend of environmental and people friendly management policies.

Question: Are the people who are reviewing using the Rikagaku Dustless Chalk for this holder? Or are you using standard chalk? It would probably slide if you are not using the chalk that the holder was made for.

I don't know why anyone would give this product a bad review. I've been using it for over 6 months and I just love it. I write so much better with it, it's easy to use, and holds the chalk extremely well (I use the same brand of chalk). I highly recommend this product.

EXCELLANT holder. Works perfectly if you use the Rikagaku chalk. I find using the holder my writing is much clearer and neater. I highly recommend this holder, and don't know why other people were complaining about it other than possibly they were trying to use different chalk in it.

I had high hopes that Japanese design and quality would have produced what North America cannot seem to manage: a chalk holder that actually holds a stick of chalk in place. This holder is a complete disappointment. It held the chalk securely for one and a half class sessions. After that point, writing with less than regular pressure pushes the chalk into the holder. (Yes, I am using Rikagaku brand chalk purchased in the same order as this "holder.) The only reason I am not tossing it is that it provides a secure way to carry a stick of backup chalk with me to guard against the inevitable absence of chalk in classrooms. It certainly does not work as a holder.
