This is my 2nd Sailor pen, the first being a Sapporo with a 14k F nib. It's not
fair to compare the two, but fair, shmair! The Sailor HighAce Neo writes a very,
very fine line. It never, ever skips on me, and writes immediately upon start
up. The balance is nice, and the sleek aluminum cap has a tight clip. The cap
posts securely on both ends of the pen.
So why only four stars? The barrel is plastic, which in and of itself wouldn't
be the issue if were sturdier plastic. The first HighAce Neo sent to me by
JetPens arrived with a very broken barrel. The second arrived unscathed, but I
don't expect it to survive being accidentally sat on or otherwise put under any
pressure besides that exerted during writing.
I manged to repurpose my first HighAce Neo's nib and cap by finding an old
Sheaffer aluminum barrel that fit the nib section with a little extra taping.
The cap even posts securely on it. And the aluminum feels WONDERFUL. This is the
barrel that Sailor should have gone with in the first place, even if it meant
adding a few extra $$ to the price.
Anyway, if you like a very fine, reliable line and don't mind babying this pen a
bit, you'll find it to be a good value.
