I'm a professional illustrator...
May 2, 2013
I'm a professional illustrator, and this is HANDS DOWN my favorite pencil to work with, and has been for years. Admittedly, I did like the original body better, but the current body has no adverse effects on its function, and I have several of these that have held up for years - I just keep replacing the leads. The long eraser is great, and since it's the same white vinyl material as the Staedtler's full-size artists' eraser, it really does a top-notch job of cleaning. I only break out my bigger one when I need to clean up a large area of paper.

The most awesome thing about this pencil, though, isn't the body or the eraser, but the lead itself. Staedtler's mars micro lead (the put different lead in their super cheap pencils, it's different from what's in these) is like drawing with a liquid pencil: there is almost NO drag whatsoever, and I love it, and will CRY if they ever stop making it. Jetpens, if you can get ahold of the replacement lead for these pencils (these! http://www.jp.staedtler.com/Mars_micro_carbon_jp), I will officially never shop for it anywhere else. (Here's hoping someone in acquisitions reads this review!)

Well, it was a good pencil while it lasted... The top of the pencil where it goes together after lead is put in it snapped into 2 pieces. I didn't do anything to it, I got it out of my backpack and it was like that. So, everyone who said a flimsy design, I guess they were right and I should have listened.

Great pencil, the click mechanism is pretty smooth, and the longer eraser is a nice bonus. I love the triangular body, it makes the pencil very comfortable to hold.

Not a bad pencil, I like pencils with twist erase, since I do a lot of revisions on drawings I make.
It seems like the eraser is better quality than usual.
I'm not crazy about the barrel design, sort of triangular, and maybe too smooth.
It's a nice addition to my collection, but not perfect.

The only complaint I...

The only complaint I have about this pencil is that, yes, the body does feel pretty cheap and flimsy, almost as if you can break it in half if you bend it enough. Besides that, it's a good product.
