They protect the point on most pencils. If you are a Palomino fan, they are good
for you. If you are a Ticonderoga fan, the pencil point comes out the other end.

I bought these primarily for the Blackwing Palomino pencils, which they work
pretty well for, although I sometimes find the pencil cap off while in my purse.
You have to jam it on there pretty good. Unfortunately, when my daughter
wanted to take a pencil with her, I offered her one of these caps but the sharp
point stuck right thru the hole in the top. That pencil was more of a generic
hexagon ticonderoga school-grade pencil, which is apparently not as thick as the
more expensive pencils or round pencils.
