 This really applies to..., February 28, 2011This really applies to all the sun-star pencil cap/extenders.
Keep in mind that these wont fit on some of the thinner pencils that you might
have, although you can put a strip of paper in to make a tighter fit. Aside from
that, they work wonderfully! They cap on and hold tight on almost all pencils.
Long point pencils will sometimes stick out the hole on the end in these. I have
yet to figure out whether that's worse than the metal caps, where the long
points don't always fit well either. The upside to these is that you won't break
a point putting it in. But it still might break off later. It still is much
better than the losing a whole point because you'll only lose the very tip.
For any pencils you will put caps on, I'd recommend a shorter point, which you
can make with a sharpener like this:

This can also help to make the point less fragile for general use.
As an extender, I'd say these work about as good as the traditional
metal-ring-type on most pencils, especially ones with a metal ferrule on the
end. Note also you don't usually need to put the pencil in all the way. You can
also put a piece of paper in to make it tighter.
This is the best value in my opinion for pencil caps. I wish they would restock
the 12 pack!

 The pencil still requires..., December 21, 2010The pencil still requires over an inch and a half to go into the holder. Now, it
may not seem that much, until you realize you can probably still use a two inch
pencil barehanded. (seriously, measure it out and you'll see). What this means
is, it's more likely that this "extender" is actually giving you *less* pencil
life. It's not a bad cap though, so for protecting softer leads and colored
pencils I would recommend it (if you travel with them), but not for extending a
pencil. There are several other extenders that are *MUCH* better (two of them
are sold on this site. The Tombow Ippo grips and the Staad One-Push Pencil
holder will let you use your pencils down to the tiniest little nubs.
