TWSBI fountain pens are loved for their high quality and affordability, offering advanced filling mechanisms normally reserved for much more expensive fountain pens. The Diamond 580 features a modern, eye-catching design, with a transparent body that shows off the pen's inner workings. Its faceted barrel catches light and makes your ink shine, and it also helps keep the pen from rolling away. The high-capacity piston filling mechanism is easily operated by twisting the knob at the end of the barrel counter-clockwise to extend the piston, submerging the nib in ink, then screwing the knob tight to retract the piston, drawing ink into the pen straight from the bottle—no need for cartridges or a converter! Be careful, operating the piston while ink is in the pen will cause ink to leak out of the pen.

In keeping with their philosophy of promoting the traditional experience of using a fountain pen, TWSBI has designed this pen to be completely self-serviceable. It comes with a wrench and a vial of silicone grease you can use for at-home maintenance.

This pen can be refilled from any fountain pen ink bottle, but for clean and easy refilling, try a TWSBI Diamond 50 Ink Bottle, which has a special component designed specifically for refilling TWSBI Diamond fountain pens.

The pen comes in an attractive clear plastic case with a clean, modern design.

For protection, the plastic case is packaged in a cardboard box. This cardboard box is fragile and may get crumpled during shipping.

This pen only uses bottled ink, which is not included with this pen. Check out our collection of bottled fountain pen inks here!

When the pen arrives...
February 8, 2016
When the pen arrives at your hands, you begin to see that this pen is a very high quality pen. I have some very expensive pens whose quality is lower than this pen. The high amount of ink that it can fill, is a very well machined mechanism, and all the pen is a work of art. My medium nib writes very smooth. Ink flows very well, not too much, and is not dry. The pen is big, not so big as huge, but this is a big pen. I would rate it as medium size. And the most important thing, after writing, is the amount you have to pay for the pen, it is a very economical pen and you can start to collect pens with this pen, as it is recommended that newbies don't start with a bad pen. A good pen can be a $3 pen, and also a $900 pen. If you start collecting with this pen, you will have a positive entrance to the hobby. And, please write much!

LOVE this pen. My Visconti...

LOVE this pen. My Visconti suffered a mishap and has to ship back to Italy for repairs; I purchased one of these as a holdover for work while the Visconti was gone. I think I actually like this better! The vaccuum fill is pretty damn cool, I believe it holds more than with some of the other fountain cartridge systems, and it certainly looks fabulous in the clear case (I have a penchant for purple ink). The nib is exactly the right size (medium) for my style of writing. However, it's critical that you select the right ink and the right paper. I had tried using J Herbin Pensive Violet ink but immediately noticed that there appeared to be a lot of sediment in the ink; you could see it through the transparent side. Writing on standard copier paper at that time was scratchy and spotty.

Arriving at work, I flushed out the J Herbin and replaced it instead with Murasaki-Shikibu "Iroshizuku" purple ink. Several pages of copious notes later in a Mnemosyne notebook and the tip flows very smoothly, there's no sections where the ink didn't lay down properly, the flow is even and smooth and it's simply an absolute joy to write with. The screw-on lid is a total bonus and is unlikely to unscrew on you; the click-shut lids always tend to unclick at the darndest moments.

I love, love, love this pen!!! It is awesome, writes very smoothly and makes my handwriting better! I love the ability to change ink colors fairly easily, i mean obviously, picking up a different colored pen is easier, but there is just something very satisfying in learning to handle this pen. I am afraid i will probably be driven to buy another in the very near future!!! Curse you JetPens, for awakening the inner pen addiction ;o)
