TWSBI fountain pens are loved for their high quality and affordability, offering advanced filling mechanisms normally reserved for much more expensive fountain pens. The Diamond 580 features a modern, eye-catching design, with a transparent body that shows off the pen's inner workings. Its faceted barrel catches light and makes your ink shine, and it also helps keep the pen from rolling away. The high-capacity piston filling mechanism is easily operated by twisting the knob at the end of the barrel counter-clockwise to extend the piston, submerging the nib in ink, then screwing the knob tight to retract the piston, drawing ink into the pen straight from the bottle—no need for cartridges or a converter! Be careful, operating the piston while ink is in the pen will cause ink to leak out of the pen.

In keeping with their philosophy of promoting the traditional experience of using a fountain pen, TWSBI has designed this pen to be completely self-serviceable. It comes with a wrench and a vial of silicone grease you can use for at-home maintenance.

This pen can be refilled from any fountain pen ink bottle, but for clean and easy refilling, try a TWSBI Diamond 50 Ink Bottle, which has a special component designed specifically for refilling TWSBI Diamond fountain pens.

This pen features an aluminum grip section and piston mechanism. It comes in an attractive clear plastic case with a clean, modern design.

For protection, the plastic case is packaged in a cardboard box. This cardboard box is fragile and may get crumpled during shipping.

This pen only uses bottled ink, which is not included with this pen. Check out our collection of bottled fountain pen inks here!

I've been reading about...
July 11, 2015
I've been reading about TWSBI pens for a while now, but never really felt compelled to try one, despite the rave reviews by TWSBI fanboyz. I have a dozen or more excellent steel-nibbed pens and have been saving space for vintage and flex nibs. But curiosity finally got the best of me. I bought this pen (TWSBI Diamond 580AL, EF nib) and splurged on one of the TSWBI bottles as well. I expected a high quality but unexciting pen. Instead, the quality and craftsmanship of this pen (and the superlative and ingenious filling cap on the bottle - reviewed separately) have blown my socks off.
The pen body and cap are made of very high quality, thick, clear plastic and the metal components are solid and heavy. The plunger, made of precision milled metal, will most certainly outlast me. The EF nib was the real surprise. Out of the box, it feels stiff, as is typical of steel EF nibs, yet it provides surprising degree of flex. For comparison it felt *slightly* less smooth than my Pilot Prera F nib (on Kokuyo Campus paper), yet achieved a broader range of stroke widths, making for gorgeous cursive and showcasing my ink's shading qualities -- an impressive feat for an EF nib!
The only point on which I can fault this pen is that the cap is a little more heavy than I'd prefer when posted. This shortcoming is not enough to overcome my astonishment at the brilliant filling system and overall outstanding quality. The 580AL Silver will be my go-to pen for the foreseeable future.

This pen is a great pen for the price point. It wrote a little scratchy at first, but it has since wrote smooth. Would buy again 10/10.

Works great. I think this demonstrator pen is so cool because I can see the ink color and what is remaining in the ink well. It is easy to maintain. Comes with easy-to-read instructions, a wrench, and some silicone grease to help with maintenance.
