The Tachikawa School...,
November 24, 2010
The Tachikawa School nib is actually Quite Nice! It’s moderately stiff, and
decently smooth over paper. It provides a satisfactory swell and, I personally
just love the response and feel of this pen.
It feels a lot like my beloved Esterbrook Falcons, only a little scratchier -
but it has one big downfall as far as I am concerned; It cannot handle side
strokes well.
The nib itself is of excellent quality like all of the Japanese nibs I’ve
tested so far. Fuller review on the "escape from suicide wolf forrest" blog.

You are better off going with the ZEBRA brand, unless $1.50 means that much to
you.

Tachikawa Comic Pen Nib - Maru (Mapping) Model - Soft Type - Pack of 2
I've been looking for a nib to replace the Hunt 102 crowquill, which has
degraded in quality to the point of uselessness. The Tachikawa T-77 is not only
a good replacement, it's a step up. I use a flexible nib (Hunt 108) for my "big"
lines, but the T-77 is perfect for finer lines, especially because it has a VERY
controlled bounce. Very strong nib, very impressed, and it's increased my
enjoyment of inking tenfold.

Tachikawa Comic Pen Nib - Maru (Mapping) Model - Pack of 2
Creates incredibly fine lines and if you prep the nib correctly, it'll be very
smooth. It will catch on the paper at times, but that's expected of such a small
point. I actually accidently stabbed my finger with it... You may only get 2 in
one pack, but if you take care of them, one nib can last over a year.
Definitely will repurchase in the future.

do, even though if you really want to get picky, the zebra is smoother

ok product. because its soft it can make some uncontrolled lines unless you are
just skimming the page. but it still makes the thin lines you need, plus 2 for a
total of 4 nibs is cheaper and better than the thank master version.

I've been using these maru/round/mapping nibs for about 2 years and they've been
very good to me. They seem to break in a little more slowly than the Nikko
brand. These nibs are the most difficult to use. It's their nature to catch the
paper and tear it if you're not careful. Keep a light hand and practice, and
you'll be able to make the thinnest lines!

Nibs that I got were chrome but the ones listed are copper, I don't know, label
on the nibs package seemed to be correct but they were just larger versions of
the hard nib, really not that flexible at all.
Problem with chrome crow quill nibs is that they don't flex like a 102 and will
just pierce the paper, really don't like these nibs.

I found this nib to be completely useless, it's too hard, catches on paper and
the ink flow isn't that great even after lighting the nib up. Chrome nibs aren't
my thing, you might like it if you have a need for very fine lines with low ink
flow like if you want to ink eyes or that sort of details.

Great nib!
Tachikawa is a great brand when your using Mapping or Maru pens!
The ink flow messes up at first, but put it under a flame a few secs and it
flows perfectly!
Great for very detailed areas in a piece specially for Manga.
Highly recommended!

These nibs are superior in every way. They're very firm and flexible and (unlike
the Hunt crowquill nibs) handle very smoothly. These are even suitable for
toothier paper where other nibs would skip and stutter.

I'm not sure if this is obvious to the rest of you, but I found it cool that the
pen nib kind of splits when you need more ink. At first i thought I broke it xD
scared me. But all of them were like this so I relaxed. Very nice nibs in my
opinion. Need to get a better hang of them though. xD

Tachikawa Comic Pen Nib - Maru (Mapping) Model - Pack of 10
Amazing nib!..At first l had big problems because,to my big disappointment, the
ink didn't flow continuously and it's my worst nightmare when drawing a line and
the ink stops at the middle!..Then l decided to try by putting the nib end under
the fire for a few seconds to put off the protective coating.l rarely follow
this otherwise advisable procedure since the nib usually becomes a bit scratchy
and the line a lit bit broader and a bit less fine. But it worked very nicely
with the Tachikawa nib to produce an awesomely fine line with the ink flowing
continuously without any problem and that's great. So all l can say from my
experience is this nib is simply fantastic, better than my always beloved Hunt
102 nib which l have used for many years.lt just makes a very nice contact with
the paper and the lines can be really thin like a hair.My new love,l guess.

To not make this review too long, I'll get to the point:
Smooth, the line varies in a thin measure (it looks different but doesn't get to
be as thick as the G-pen or some other pens), it holds a lot of ink and the line
remains constant and neat without any problem. Although I've read in
descriptions and so that it's special for writing, I use it for drawing and I
get amazing results.
I recommend it, and although many people give a lot of credit to the G-pen, I
personally prefer this one. I works great for making: characters, dialogue
balloons, writing, speed lines... well, everything except light effects, for
those you need a G-pen or a Maru (round) pen.
Now, my words are not law, I can't guarantee that you will like it as much as I
do; in the end, everything depends on the artist rather than the tool.
