For many pencil users, the Mono 100 by Tombow is one of the best wooden pencils ever made. The model is a favorite among draftsmen, designers, other professionals, and students, and was popularly requested by JetPens customers. The pencils require only a soft touch when writing, feature break-resistant high-density graphite lead, and have beautiful glossy black paint finishes. An impressive range of 17 lead grades is available. The lead grades are as follows, listed from softest to hardest: 6B, 5B, 4B, 3B, 2B, B, HB, F, H, 2H, 3H, 4H, 5H, 6H, 7H, 8H, and 9H.

This pencil comes unsharpened.

I am disappointed with this pencil and I'm glad I didn't order a box before trying it out. This pencil is beautiful but it has a surprising and fatal flaw; it is extremely difficult to sharpen. I have used multiple sharpeners (manual and electric) and the result is always the same. A brittle lead that either shears entirely or exhibits small holes down the length of the exposed point. Either this single pencil was a dud or the graphite composition Tombow are using for this line is of questionable integrity.

I'm sad that the performance of this pencil is so far below the aesthetic appeal, and I'll be throwing what little is left of it in the bin. Looks like I'll be sticking with the Prismacolor Scholar and the Staedtler Mars Lumograph 100 for the time being. Both are superior pencils and cost far less than the Tombow.

I needed a new 2H because the one I had for 25 years had finally gotten way too short. Basic good drawing pencil.

I first used this on Bristol Smooth paper and it just glides like its satin on satin. Great quality pencil from a great company. I like H pencils mostly for their low graphite loss, and this one does that without tearing at the pages. I compared it with another 2H that just scraped the paper and tore at it. I definitely plan on getting more as the one I got tends to get lost.
