This is a great pen; does not deserve those negative reviews imho.

First off, I did not buy this pen from JetPens (I DO buy many pens here) since it wasn’t available until recently. I’ve had one over two years, brought from Europe, and really like it. It was introduced in 2005 (such comment as “ripoff of the Zebra Sharbo X” is total nonsense) but only sold in select markets. I’m glad that it finally showed up here.

It is a very high quality pen; well made and feels solid. Compare to Sharbo X (since already mentioned), Zoom 414 is much slimmer but actually heavier. I would rate the quality of this pen better that AL5 and maybe similar or better than CB8 (I have both). In many ways, it is similar to Platinum Double R3 pens (own one) but much higher quality overall.

The design is minimalistic; simple, subtle yet elegant. No wonder that it received both iF and reddot design awards. If you prefer flashy or colorful design, this is likely not for you.

For a slim pen, the grip is adequate. The action is reliable and feels solid. Clip is solid and strong (reminds me of some Lamy pens). To fit in all these into a slim body, some compromise had to be made, I guess. Pencil mechanism is not as robust as Sharbo X, and only in 0.5mm. I would love to have 0.7mm option. I am somewhat careful with this pen, but then I’m also careful with Sharbos. Style Fit is the best when I’m in carefree mode (btw, with a little work, you can fit sharbo 0.7mm pencil into Fit). Built-in eraser is not that usable (same goes to Sharbo X). I fitted it with OHTO refills (please restock) and, again, am very happy.

Expensive - yes, worth the price - likely, & yes to me. I have another Tombow pen that is about 30 years old, still works fine. I feel this pen will last just as well, probably outlast me…

I bought the silver Tombow Zoom 414 about 6 months ago. I've used many types of Lamy multi-pens (4 of them), two Sharbo-X and a Sailor multipen, and the Tombow is my favorite. In fact, i've given away most of my other multipens, and now, the Tombow is the only pen i put in my pocket.

The silver version is really beautiful looking in my view - simple and elegant. The construction is top notch. While the twist mechanism of the Sharbo-X has a more definite catch, i do not have any complaints about the Tombow's. Sure, the pen could be cheaper, but you get what you pay for - quality, and award-winning beauty.

I had some trouble initially when i tried to change the refill. Couldn't find the way to open up the pen. Finally, found out that the split is right in the middle.

More expensive ripoff of the Zebra Sharbo X Multi Pen System...

I HATED THIS PRODUCT, NEVER BUY IT!!! WASTE OF MONEY!!!

Nice pen. I have the silver body to go with all my other titanium/aluminum finished tech. Refined shape, and slim profile. Smooth mechanism, with snappy lock-in indication when choosing which internal pen. Great weight in the hand. xlnt design. the front and back half of the pen slide tightly together, not screw, so its secure, eraser end screws down. The pen rattles a very little bit, but compared to my Zebra Sharbo X in a similar color with similar pen/pencil setup, its a little less refined. I prefer the Zebra. Its at the office with me every day. I use the Tombow 414 at home. It rattles a bit more, it feels less refined, and the front part comes away from the back part via a snug slide.

IF you don't have both pens, choosing this one is a fine decision.
