If you like the fineness...

If you like the fineness of your 0.5 Jetstream, give the thinner 0.38mm a try. I love this new Jetstream in 0.38mm. It writes smoothly and you can write SO TINY, even smaller than the .5 (well, duh) and there's none of the "false starts" skipping when your first mark to paper is a tiny mark. And omg! I already lost mine that I bought two weeks ago, probably to a co-worker--so I just bought several more of these in 0.38mm! Also note that blue & black refills are available now in 0.38mm, so you can customize your Jetstreams, match the sky blue pen body to blue ink, for example...that's what I'm doing. :)

It's like any other ballpoint...

It's like any other ballpoint pen. For the design, it gets a 5 in terms of the color, design, and build of the materials, but I was hoping it would have something more than other ballpoints I've used in terms of the way it writes. I wanted something I wouldn't have to wait on to dry in a certain notebook I have. I just hoped "something" was a bit different with this ballpoint. I would give it a 2 for writing quality.

It does skip ink. Sometimes, when I don't use it for minutes or hours on end and then try to use it, I have to make a series of lines and scribbles to get the ink flowing again. I once tried this for 4 min. on end, and the ink just sputtered itself out when it wanted to despite the cartridge being new. This occurred on day 1, and even after 3 weeks of me just forcing myself to use it daily before completely giving up. When I did write, it was a weird combination of smooth and scratchiness sometimes. I normally write in Kokuyo-paper notebooks I buy from Jet Pens, and I've even tried using this with a soft shitajiki under it, but to no avvail. This is why I originally stopped buying and using any brand of ballpoints years ago.

I love the body design...

I love the body design but when I got it, I noticed that writing with it didn't feel smooth but scratchy. I had another favorite black pen at the time so I hadn't used it in a while. I was taking notes and ran out of ink so I used it as my go to only to find that even after I had prepared it for use by writing in a scrap piece of paper, it wouldn't write smoothly while I was taking notes. There was a lot of skipping and then the ink just stopped flowing completely despite the cartridge being full. It wrote fine in the scrap of paper but when I go to take notes, nothing. I'm thinking it's not getting along well with the Midliners highlighters I used on the page as it just won't write on top of it.

I really, really like fine-nib pens, and they are the one thing that actually makes my scribbly handwriting slightly easier to read. However, at work I cannot use my favourite gel pens on certain documents... and here's where this lovely pen comes into play, of whose like I never thought I would be able to find! It's a ballpoint, so I'm within the rules, but I still get the nice thin line that I prefer. It also comes in my favourite color, which is always a plus. Also, it has yet to leak in my pocket and it's been in some sort of breast pocket for about a month straight (when not in use, of course).

The one bad thing that I have found with this pen is that it has a tendency to leave little blobs of ink on the paper occasionally. You can usually see this starting to build up and can wipe it off, but if you're writing a lot you may not notice in time. Since this is more just a factor of the pen type in general than this pen specifically I would not really consider that a deal-breaker in the slightest.
