DescriptionSpecificationsFrequently Asked Questions
There's a real problem that affects almost all mechanical pencils—bear with us as we explain. As you use a regular mechanical pencil, the lead wears down on one side, forming a slanted wedge-shaped tip. Each time you put the lead to the page you end up using a different lead surface (pointy, flat, wide, thin) depending on how you hold the pencil. This can cause dramatic and unsightly variations in line thickness as you write or draw.

The Kuru Toga eliminates this problem with the use of an ingenious lead rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. A spring-loaded clutch twists the lead incrementally every time you lift the pencil from the paper. This allows a uniform wearing of the lead to create a conical tip shape that provides a fine, consistent line.

This pencil has a fixed lead sleeve and ridges in the grip area that support your fingers as you write. The capped eraser is refillable. Three Nano Dia HB leads are included. Nano Dia is Uni's line of diamond-infused leads that are particularly strong and resist breakage.

I love this pencil. It really does stay sharp, even with upwards and slanted writing. The 0.5 is perfect for me and the lead in this pencil is amazing.

I've often been frustrated by dulled pencil lead, so I snapped this pencil up when I saw it fixed the problem.

The good news: The pen works as advertised for block writing!

The not so good news: You will still notice a bit of dullness if you write in cursive. This makes sense, since the mechanism rotates when the pencil lifts up, and cursive requires the pencil to stay down for a whole word.

Not a dealbreaker though, the pencil still is a marked improvement over regular pencils, even with cursive writing. And it's very comfortable to write with too, even without a gel pad.

Really nice pencil for class notes, writing and drawing. It is very comfortable and worth its price (though I bought it because it was on sale... $5 was a bit too much), the 'lead rotation' mechanism actually works and is worth a shot.

There's another Kuru Toga ( http://www.jetpens.com/Uni-Kuru-Toga-Auto-Lead-Rotation-Mechanical-Pencil-0.3 -mm-Pink-Body/pd/3214 ) which is more expensive at $7.50 and if you are wondering what are the difference/s, it is only on the pen body design and I found that the grip is slightly more comfortable than this one. But it was not worth the extra dollars for me, this kuru toga is sufficient enough. :3

Lead isn't as dark as I would like, but can be fixed with switching Leads. Pencil rotates so the lead doesn't get the dull tip that I noticed so far. Lead hasn't broken on me yet as well. The groves in the pencil is a nice touch on the edge, but doesn't do much on grip with those with large hands. Would like to try other kuru pencils.
