These leads are individually color-coded (indicating its hardness) with a ring on the end that prevents them from falling off the leadholder. A practical feature I had not seen in decades that prevents accidental drops and lead breakage (when pressing the button absent-mindedly). The leads also fit and work in Staedtler Mars Technico leadholders. I tried fitting them in my Faber-Castell TK 9400 and Caran D'Ache leadholders, but I would have had to snip off the useful stopper ring for them to fit. The leads sharpen easily and glide fairly smoothly over the paper (similar to the graphite from Mitsubishi UniStar pencils and less smoothly that the Hi-Uni grade). Good value for this quality.

Awesome lead-- once you sample the Uni Ball leads, it's hard to settle for anything else. They seem darker in each grade than other leads I have experienced (disclaimer: not much experience)

I purchased these for casual use rather than use my prized Faber-Castell (FC) 9030 graphite supply. It writes smoothly and is dark on drawings, scratch paper and fine wood. If you are used to FC graphite you may find this a bit softer and darker than an FC B grade. The little plastic guard on the top assumes that the holder is top loading and many 'high end' drafting pencils such as the FC 9800 and the Koh-i-nor are not. The plastic ring can be pulled off with a little care and the graphite can be used in those holders.

Lovely lead. Smooth, easy to sharpen, easy to erase, nice and dark.
