Since the Mitsubishi...

Since the Mitsubishi describes itself as an "office use" pencil, I'll compare it to Dixon Ticonderoga's 2/HB Soft pencil which has been an office standard for years. The Mitsubishi's polished maroon color, gold writing, and white eraser is quite handsome. The Ticonderoga's yellow and green appearance is sentimentally familiar but less striking. The Mitusubishi eraser is very effective and, in my experience, far superior to the Ticonderoga. Over time, unless used regularly and from the start, the Ticonderoga eraser grows slick and leaves marks when erasing. The texture of the Mitsubishi eraser is different and I don't see it growing slick as it ages. The Mitsubishi lead is darker than the Ticonderoga and, for me, preferable. I like the contrast on white paper. Both sharpen very well. Overall, the Mitsubishi pencil has won me over and should please anyone interested in an excellent woodcased pencil for everyday use.

Honestly, i cant think of any gripe i have with this pencil..
It sharpens like a dream and writes smoothly and dark.
The eraser is also very useful and erases surprisingly cleanly.
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED.

Absolutely fantastic pencil. It's not quite as smooth as my Palomino Blackwings (either the Blackwing or the 602) but it's not really supposed to be, being an HB. That said, it gives both of them a serious run for their money. It's _very_ smooth, and makes a nice, full line while not being too dark. The smooth, plasticy lacquer coating is also an amazingly high-quality feature of the pen. It's smooth, grippy and feels somehow thick and substantial. Very satisfied for 1/2 the price of a single Blackwing. Good backup pencil, and good pencil to use on those darned Scantron tests (though, in case anyone is wondering, I've had success with regards to taking tests with lead grades darker than HB just fine the few times I've done it).

So far, just enough tooth in the lead to be sure I'm drawing, but smooth enough to delight. An exceptional pencil. The eraser is adequate, but I strongly prefer the Uni Boxy or a Mars Plastic.

The 9850 gives a nice dark line for an HB. You have to press down a little more than with a softer Mitsubishi pencil. The eraser is a convenience not found on many high quality pencils

Easy sharpen. Glides smoothly over paper of different quality. And erases cleanly.
Tested on Dollar Store filler paper to a Rhodia dot pad.

I bought this on a whim, curious what was so special about a $1 pencil (Given that for non-mechanical pencils I wouldn't buy any less than a 10 pack for $1.) This pencil feels and acts great. The eraser is nice and responsive, the pencil feels smooth in the hand, and it sharpens and writes well.

My grandson (10 yrs old) is the reason I purchased the Uni Mitsubishi 9850 pencils. He has a strange aversion to the sound of pencil lead on paper-at least with typical pencils.

This pencil performs with less pressure on the pencil/paper and has a softer feel when he is writing. He treasures the pencils. Yes... A 10 yr old treasures the pencils. Pretty good considering he has some nicer "things" that a lot of work hours went into purchasing for him, and those things were forgotten practially overnight. He must have REALLY had an issue with the typical-style pencils!

Anyway, to be honest, I really can tell a difference with these pencils (the actual writing experience) and I will continue to return for more, as I have found that I prefer them as well.

I don't know what to write for this review that hasn't already been mentioned. This pencil is just a dream to write with. Smooth lead, good eraser, quality wood. Wow. It's a favourite in my case.

I highly recommend it if you're a pencil user. This will be repurchased for sure when the first one is used up!
