Nano Dia for Kids - Pink

I bought nearly every block eraser that Japan makes in a recent shopping binge. As a math major, I need lots of erasers as it is, but I also wanted to determine which ones worked best for my needs. I tested all of the erasers on three different types of pencils: a Pilot Eno color .7, a Pentel graphite .5 and a Pentel color 2mm, and then on three different paper types: Rhodia, an index card, and then plain old American junk copier paper.

The type of paper wound up not mattering with the performance of any of the erasers. What mattered was what they were erasing.

So with that established:

I am completely shocked. I expected this eraser to be only so-so, but it finished in a solid third place for best overall eraser.

After looking at black erasers and off-white erasers and green erasers and so on, the Nano Dia decided to grab my attention by being Rhodia bright white. Its shape is also a little different from most, a standard block eraser, but one that's wider and not as long. It's not square by any means, but its definitely chunkier in feeling. This made me wonder why it's marketed to children. It seems like this shape would be too wide for young hands, since it fit in my average hand (for a woman) so well. But what do I know? Maybe it's easy for kids to hold onto.

As for performance, the Nano erased .5 and .7 pencil lines like they were nothing, with precious little effort.

It finished well ahead of all but two other erasers in taking out the Pentel 2mm color lines that felled so many other competitors. Not that it erased all of the color, which is why it's #3 on my list of erasers, but I'm surprised at how well this "kids" eraser did at getting rid of as much as it did.

This is a really good eraser. I can see myself buying more of them, despite how they don't work with the Pentel 2 mm lead, for those times when I want something different to look at in my pencil case. I certainly won't be able to miss this in my case, with that blinding white color!
