Love this pencil! Lines..., October 10, 2009
Love this pencil! Lines are always smooth and even. The lead that is included is excellent and almost never breaks. I use this pencil every day in class and it is perfect. I switched to this from the Zebra Frisha Automatic pencil and I was fed up with how often the lead jammed in that one. I have had no problems with this pencil and receive a lot of comments on it.

The eraser is very small and ran out quickly. Oh and don't lose the eraser cap because you won't be able to advance the lead without it

This is fine as mechanical pencils go but I'm still wearing the tip to a slant - the lead isn't turning enough to do what it is supposed to do, which is to wear to a point. The looks of this pencil are ok, but not extraordinary.

BEST PENCIL EVER! Nice thin, dark line. Smooth writer. Cool looking body. Great colors. Only complaint is the tiny little eraser.

This is a fantastic pencil! It writes incredibly thin. The Kuru Toga Engine is a marvel of engineering. I don't ever want to be without one.

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Green Body
NEVER MIND WHAT I SAID EARLIER

IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE AT FIRST BUT ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS:

1. TAKE OFF THE SILVER TIP
2. PULL ON THE BLACK TIP
3. POINT THE PENCIL AT YOUR CAT OR A FAVORED TARGET
4. CLICK ONCE
5. THE BLACK TIP WILL SHOOT HITTING THE SELECTED TARGET
6 YOUR DONE

WISH THIS PROCESS WAS EASIER :/

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Black Body
This is a decent mech pencil, but it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. The lead rotates every time you lift the pencil, but it requires a certain amount of pressure in order to activate the spring inside. I usually write and sketch lightly, so most of the time I don't use enough pressure for the pencil to work the way it should. If the sensitivity was higher, it would be great, unfortunately it's not.

Again, I'm giving this 2 stars because while it's an OK product, it doesn't work the way it should. If you're a person who presses hard a lot, then it's fine for you. But for someone who wants to sketch with it or naturally doesn't write hard, it's not going to be anything special.

In other words, if you're buying internationally, this product is not worth the money when you add the shipping costs.

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.3 mm - Pink Body
This is an awsome pencil!!! I love very thin lead, and usually .3 lead has a tendency to break easily. Not with this pencil! even the cheap lead stays sturdy because of the pencils unique design. its my favorite pencil ever!!! just one thing, buy extra erasers: they wear out and you'll wanna use this pencil a lot!

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Orange Body
It's neat! It writes a lot finer than regular 0.5mm pencils, and the design itself is very nice and lightweight. But I think for me, my favorite part is that as you write with the pencil, the little circular kura toga logo in the clear part of the barrel rotates. You can actually see the mechanics in action! Very cool!

This is a good basic..., August 3, 2011
This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.3 mm - Pink Body
This is a good basic pencil, but the auto lead rotating mechanism is not as impressive as it advertises itself to be. The idea is that when you write, the pressure from pushing down on to the paper loads a little spring, and then when you lift the pencil from the paper, the spring releases and rotates the lead a little bit. But, I found that I write too lightly for the mechanism to work. Also, one thing I recently noticed that I never noticed before is that when I write, my fingers already rotate the pencil anyway. This is a habit I developed over years of using 0.3mm pencils.

If you've been using a 0.3 pencil for a while, you probably already write very lightly and rotate the pencil, so this pencil does not do anything that you don't already. This is a nice gimmick but my recommendation is to go for a nice ergonomic design, something that doesn't jam very often, and if so is easily serviceable. This pencil at least feels comfortable to write with and is fairly light.

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Black Body
This pencil is really innovative and I wish the rotating lead idea would be carried into more pencil designs. The tip of the lead does indeed remain sharp. I think the only down side is that the lead starts to scratch into the paper and make writing rigid instead of smooth. I simply changed to a 4B lead and that did the trick.

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Silver Body
This mechanical pencil is ridiculously amazing! I love writing with this pencil more so than the 10+ others I bought from this site. It just doesn't feel the same when my letters turn out ugly or the paper rips due to the sharp lead. But I fear no more! This pencil makes me love writing and IT IS PERFECT for writing 100s of Chinese characters! I highly recommend buying 2-3 of various colors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Blue Body
My go to pencil for every day use. I actually got this from a friend in Japan, but the packaging was exactly the same as it is in the picture. Great for everything from notes to sketches to scantrons to just about anything else! The paint on mine (blue) quickly looked battered within a couple of weeks, but I have had mine for almost a year now and it still works like a charm despite this.

I literally use this pencil every day and am always sure to keep it safe within my reach. It works well with my typical small print, my large and quick (and ugly) cursive and just about any application you would use a pencil for typically.

The kuru toga mechanism is not a gimmick and works very well. My pencil marks are always the same thickness and my notes always come out looking great. I especially like the small rubber grip towards the front of the pencil that is good for keeping your fingers comfortable, yet not too invasive to make your hand feel weird like with the Dr. Grip.

This is my favorite pencil and was worth every penny. A must have for any student who wants a strong, reliable and versatile pencil. I would happily buy it 100x again.

I love this pencil very much! I have lost it twice in the blue, and I am obsessive over the color blue, and my sister had one but is not as insane with mechanical pencils as I am, so she gave me hers. That was so nice of her! Only thing I would say that is bad about this pencil is that you have to have a certain type of lead in order for it to work entirely the way it is supposed to. If the lead is too soft, it will wear down before the rotation kicks in. However, the weight, size, mechanism, and styles are absolutely to die for! Definitely recommend this pencil, but make sure you get some extra lead; the correct type.

I've been using this pencil for over a year now and I love it. it's light-weight and surprisingly durable. The color is scratching off and by looking at it, it's obvious it has seen some time but it still performs amazingly. I don't think I'll be buying another mechanical pencil for a long time. In fact, I have a number of other mechanical pencils that I haven't used since buying this one. It's just great.

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Orange Body
The lead rotation mechanism works great and keeps the lead sharp. It's great for writing and doing math problems on small pieces of paper. The grip is minimal, which I like. The space for holding lead could be larger, but it's big enough for me.

I ordered this alongside the 0.5mm KT, and I can say the exact same things - it's great. One 'gotcha' with the 0.3mm though is that the lead is so thin that the rotation doesn't do quite as much as on the 0.5mm. It still works, though the difference isn't quite as dramatic. I've read that certain types of lead wear more slowly which makes a difference (I have the HB AIN lead currently) so that may help as well.

All I can say is wow. I heard about this pencil on the Minimal Mac podcast, and I decided to give it a try since I have an issue with chiseling lead, even on 0.5 mm lead. The mechanism is very nice; it does exactly what it's intended to do. It's not really that much of a difference in reality, but it just makes writing that much smoother and more even. It won't work miracles, but the benefit is really in the details.

This pencil is awesome. I would recommend it. You can see your lines perfectly, there's no smudging. the only thing though is that I had to buy an eraser, cause the one on the pencil was too tiny for my tastes. other than that I say go for it! It you like to write alot this pencil is for you!

This review is from Uni-ball Kuru Toga Auto Lead Rotation Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm - Black Body
Best pencil i've owned. Once you've used this, you'll probably never use another pencil.

pro:
very consistent writing thickness due to lead rotation
body feels solid

cons:
tip wobbles a little since it needs to rotate
the body is made of transparent gray plastic - black is due to paint which will chip off
doesn't hold much lead ( i like to put 10-20 pieces in, not 3-5)

Easily my favorite pencil, hands-down. The fine point is perfect for a biochem student (and also, I hear, for classics majors with a lot of tiny annotating to do), and the heft and grip are comfortable for long periods of scribbling.

My only complaint is that this pencil does not seem to handle the ends of lead very well; quite a bit is wasted at the end, compared with traditional (non-rotating) clutch 0.3mm pencils.

I like this pencil a lot. The mechanism works well. Usually I give 4's to utencils if there are small defects in them, but I am pleased to say that there are none in this. I would encourage people to purchase the Kuru Toga.

By the way, it writes smooth!
