The Power Tank technology of pressurized ballpoint pens has been super well received by pen lovers all over the world that Uni has made newly designed pen bodies to host the technology!

The new “Smart” series of Power Tank pens come in 2 body designs. The regular series comes in shimmering polycarbonate barrels that have subtle patterns of colors. The High Grade series showcases a fine spiral design on the aluminum pen barrel.

The regular series uses standard Power Tank refills, while the High Grade series has its own metallic casing refills. Both series come in 6 body colors with 0.7 mm black ink refills. The High Grade series also has a silver body pen in 1.0 mm.

The Power Tank pen is worthy of being used either in the military or excursions to Antarctica. The pen writes in extreme conditions including wet surfaces, cool temperatures, and even upside down. Normal pens utilize gravity to create ink flow onto a paper. But the Power Tank utilizes internal compressed air pressure to push out ink onto the paper. Revolving air inside allows it to continually push ink out until the end. The pen can write in weightless conditions such as in space, on wet paper and subzero environments. The oil based pigment ink is high density and comes out smooth and dark on paper. You can write super fast without skipping or scratching the paper.

Although not fancy, this pen must be the best ballpoint available. A very smooth line is produced, and the long-lasting cartridge is easily replaced by unscrewing the clip & button end of the pen. Barrel colors are nice, too. I own three and I have been very pleased with this Uni-ball product.

Silly name, great pen.

These new $3 Smart Series Power Tanks look better then the original PT line, but the grip (only grooved plastic) is a step backwards. I'll still give it a 5 based on how well it writes and the overall look.

This review is from Uni-ball Power Tank Smart Series Ballpoint Pen - 0.7 mm - Navy Body
Wrote acceptably but the barrel fractured, rendering it dangerous to use. Very disappointing! I had high hopes for this pen. Save your money by buying the regular kind, or get a proper Fisher Space Pen.

I found the ink to be acceptable. I used this as my dedicated car-pen; in good temperatures it writes like a good ballpoint, and in sub-zero Canadian winters it writes like a thick, below-average ballpoint: that it still writes is impressive enough for me!

Unfortunately, the top of the barrel fractured, and while the pen is still intact, clicking the pen down or up you risk having the top pop off. I have stopped using it for fear of losing it forever.

Total usage: a few hundred lines in my car, and a *single day* of pocket carry, prematurely aborted because I noticed the barrel had already snapped.

I was already a fan of the Power Tank RT pens, so I was not surprised that I liked the Smart Series as well.

My biggest problem with the RT was that the clip always seemed to break after awhile. The Smart Series clip seems to be much better.

However, I like the rubber grip of the RT better than the plastic grip of the Smart Series, so I was pleased to discover that the 'click' mechanisms are interchangeable. I am now happily writing with my 'Frankenpen' that has an RT body and a Smart Series 'click' mechanism.

the ink that comes out of these are great! but there is a HUGE designer flaw. after about 1 month of use, the top cracks (point where the top screws into the pen body), and the top part can fly off by clicking the pen top sharply.

i bought about 7 of these, and all of them have done it!
