This multi-pen leaves me with mixed emotions. The overall look of the wood with a champagne metallic plastic body is attractive and color-coordinated. The pen is well proportioned and artistically shaped. The "2-pens plus 1 pencil" design of this instrument seems like a sensible approach for an executive or business multi-pen.

The problem for me was apparently also a problem for the previous reviewer. I expected a metal or mostly metal body instead of the metallic looking plastic. This was a surprise based upon the JetPens description. I'm afraid that the plastic may also tend to make the "real wood" portion of the pen suspect -- why would you marry an exotic wood with such an obviously plastic body (the wood sleeve is real).

I had this item about two weeks when it slipped out of my shirt pocket and fell 3 feet to the pavement when I was getting into my car. The "Pure Malt" did not take the fall well -- the plastic cracked in one place and was scratched in three or four others. Oh well...

A decent looking multi-pen, but you should be clear that you are paying for mostly plastic construction. I would have preferred something closer to the construction of the Pentel S20 series of mechanical pencils in terms of marrying wood, metal and plastic to perfection.

The multipen it has a balance weight, smooth write from the pens and OK from the pencil. However, based on the description one would interpret that the body of the pen is metal. The reality is that the pen is half plastic painted in a metallic color and the bottom half, which hold the wood part, is in metal. I bought the pen based on the description. A little dissapointed in the way Jetpens describes it. The clip is also the mechanism to advance the pencil lead, I'm not sure how much it will hold since it's made of plastic. Overall, it is a nice pen and it will serve its purpose.

I love this pen-- it has a nice heft to it and is a beautiful object. Do not get the Mitsubishi ink refills though-- I haven't been using the pen much lately because the ink flow is now inferior to how it was originally. Hopefully a different refill will improve things.

OK! I am totally impressed with the Pure Malt Multi, but if you want an unbelievably beautiful one, try this limited edition navy.
The Uni-ball Pure Malt pen is both, a very unique multi-pen as well as an extremely functional tool. I was impressed with the exceptional design characteristics, as well as the flawless construction of the pen. Fit, finish and performance are fantastic. The blending of the Suntory cask wood into the pen construction makes each of these instruments totally unique. A very reasonable price for such a wonderful pen!..

The Uni-Ball Pure-Malt is a good pen for the price. I have purchased three so far...one a navy Limited Edition. I use that one every day. The inks (black, blue, and red) are vivid and flow easily. I haven't noticed any skipping yet. I would like to see Uni-Ball produce a "3+1" version and utilize the fourth slot inside the pen body. The clip could be improved but it works well. I'd prefer a metal one along the lines of the Pilot Dr. Grip 4+1 multi-pen. I like the form and it fits well in my hand when I've got a lot of writing to do. The fact that the upper portion of the barrel is plastic with a metalicized finish is fine.

I have purchased two of the Uni-ball Pure Malt series and been satisfied with both. True, the upper portion of the pen body is plastic...but the description accurately and honestly calls it "metallicized plastic"...or words to that effect. I like the smoothness of the ink and vibrancy of the black and red. I have found these to be a good pen for the money. Certainly comparable to my 5-color Dr. Grip 4+1 or my Zebra Clip-On Multi.

Pen is NOT solid metal as indicated in the picture. Top half is plastic. Where it threads together is weak -- mine broke around the threads after a week of light use. Not worth the $15.
