  I rarely write reviews....., December 29, 2011

I rarely write reviews.. but, the overall quality of this pencil prompted me to do so. I purchased it to use in a planner, anticipating the possibility of loss, and not wanting to risk losing an expensive pen. This 701 series from Zebra so closely resembles a "high end" set, like a Cross, or Waterman that it's errie! ...a fantastic bargin for a pen/pencil set, that looks like it cost 10 times more!!
Love love love this pencil...., February 15, 2013
Love love love this pencil. When i write I always seem to get very into it and put a lot of pressure on the pencil (Yes, i have snapped a few because of that). This is a solid Stainless Steel mechanical pencil that has lasted me a while in fact i still have my first one. it works like you paid a lot more for it.

This review is from Zebra M-301 Stainless Steel Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm
My favorite pencil! The M-301 is the best mechanical pencil on the market. I use this for drawing, and the sturdy steel construction, superb grip, and light weight all make for a great pencil. But I really love this pencil because the pocket clip is unobtrusive and allows for a easy and comfortable rotation of the pencil when needing to use the sharp point of the lead for detailed drawing. This pencil is also slightly shorter than most mechanical pencils, and it has a perfect weight and balance. Highly recommended!

This pencil's really good for schoolwork and such; however, the barrel is steel so if you like squishy grips, this is not for you...also, the price is a little extravagant for what you get; a wholesale store I go to used to sell a pack of ten for ten dollars.

I have this same exact pencil(but in 0.7) and it's fantastic! I usually use it for school work and drawing. The bad thing is that it says it has a great grip, but it isn't really grippe. Still this pencil is great and would recomend this for students. ;D

Really happy to see you finally have this. It's been my favourite pencil for years. The weight and size are perfect and the soft rubber grip makes it comfortable for hours. Truly a great pencil.

Very solid pencil. It has more heft than the M-301, and it's great for drawing and sketching.

I have a set of Zebra stainless steel writing utensils in my every day backpack. They are sturdy, lightweight and durable. My set includes G-301 (gel ink pen), M-301 (mechanical pencil, the innards are a bit cheap and I don't it will last), F-301 (ballpoint, hardly used, prefer the gel ink), H-301 (highlighter, thicker than the others and doesn't complement very well). I have seen that Staedtler sells a set with similar utensils, I would recommend to Zebra to create a similar one with a nice case too, as these utensils are made of stainless steel, they look more attractive and durable, and so far, they have worked great!

This review is from Zebra M-301 Stainless Steel Mechanical Pencil - 0.5 mm
Ever since I moved to the States, I've been ticked off at Dixon's Ticonderoga pencils. They don't sharpen without the lead snapping, and are all-round horrible pencils. The M-301 SAVED. MY. SANITY. Somehow, SOMEONE thought of a pencil design that actually made sense. I have used these for about 3 years now, and they are the most well-rounded pencils I have ever used.

Here's the pros:

1. Indestructible stainless steel body. The metal making up the tube is actually quite thick.
2. Perfectly balanced.
3. Basic-but-insanely-comfortable grip that simply does not let the pencil slide around at all.
4. Low-profile
5. Steel guide pipe, also indestructible
6. The clip does not get in the way ever
7. Aesthetically sound. This pencil looks awesome in all four corners of the Earth.
8. Nothing will ever kill the mechanism while the pencil is in one piece. the clutch is made of metal.
9. Easy disassembly and reassembly, and when you put it back together, it all fits perfectly which gets us to...
10. So solidly built that it is the SSD of pencils. Water doesn't get in either.
11. Works perfectly with every brand of lead
12. lead holder holds 12 leads at once. the leads seldom break in the holder even when you chuck it at a wall. Take this on holiday.
13. Cheap. two dollars. you can get two at staples for 3.50, I believe.
14. Made in Japan. The pencil itself has Japan written on it. You know it's well-made now.

cons:

1. I cannot twirl it.

I really wish i could get over my habit of losing pencils. I have gone through about eight of these suckers, and they are probably now scattered all over my house and they will continue to be there after all evidence of human civilization is gone from the earth. It is the perfect balance for anyone, whether they want a pencil that will draw, or write five page essays, or work in Antarctica. These things won't let you down, and if they do, buy a new one.

Very sturdy, reliable, plain pencil though the soft rubber grip bothers me, I prefer the little squares of the m-301. It's a great buy for its price.
