Article: The Proper Way to Hold a Fountain Pen

Fountain pens are a classic writing tool, dating back to the 10th century, and have an air of timeless elegance. Since the typical fountain pen requires little or no pressure to write, it is much less tiring than a ballpoint, roller ball, or pencil. This makes them great for writers suffering ailments such as arthritis, and they are available in a wide range of prices.

The proper way to hold a fountain pen is to form a triangle with your index finger, middle finger and your thumb. You should then place the fountain pen in that grip.

Make sure not to write at a sharp angle, as this is unsuitable for the tines on the nib of the pen and may cause damage.

Also, it is good to only use inks that are specifically made for fountain pens when it is time to refill, in order to prevent any damage or clogging to the nib. Keep in mind that different brands of ink will have different formulas and viscosity, so line width may vary.
