Here at JetPens, we import a majority of our pens and pencils directly from Japan. Because the Japanese written language uses complex and detailed characters, you can find some of the thinnest pens over in Japan, which are great for writing kanji. Even though our own Roman-based language alphabet is pretty simple in comparison, we sometimes find the need to write detailed notes in a small area. Some of us just prefer finer line width from our pens as well. The team at JetPens has compiled a list of our favorite fine point pens for your perusal.

Pilot G-1, G-2, & G-3 Gel Ink Pens
The G-2 is America's number one selling gel ink pen. Available in a 0.38 mm in 0.5 mm size. Features retractable and capped versions and has a sturdy tip. Comes only in standard colors such as black, blue, red and green. Also check out the slightly more inexpensive Pilot G-Knock.

Uni-ball Signo DX UM-151 Gel Pens Available in a 0.28 mm, 0.38 mm and 0.5 mm size. This particular line tends to be very popular among medical professionals. It has a nice color range, strong conical tip, and smooth ink flow. Excellent all-around pen.

Uni-ball Signo RT UM-138 Gel Pens

Due to their popularity, they also have different series that are retractable, have different body textures, etc. These include the Pilot Hi-Tec-C Slim Knock Gel Ink Pens and the Pilot Hi-Tec-C Cavalier Executive Gel Pens.

Uni-ball Signo Bit UM-201 Gel Pens The Uni-ball Signo Bit in a 0.18 mm size is the world's thinnest tip! The needlepoint tip is so fine it can write even on a grain of rice. Very fine tip can be a bit scratchy at times.

Siva is a JetPens customer who is currently studying illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology. You can see more of his work at and His fun children's illustrations combine colorful cartoons with a sense of humor.

Give us a little insight as to how you use our JetPens products in your illustrations.

When I want to create something bold and cartoony I always go with Sakura Microns just because it is easy to produce such a bold/thin line with them. I find it easier to pull out a micron when I am in the middle of the street with an idea instead of a dip pen. But when I in my studio working on something with more detail I will always pull out my Zebra G-pen and maru nibs.

Thanks for sharing Siva!
