We heart color samples! This one is particularly well organized and detailed. Combined, they showcase 36 of the 47 colors of the Hi-Tec-C! We like how Betty used boxes, writing, AND squiggly lines to show the color of the pen. Thanks Betty!

Ever since the Pilot Hi-Tec-C pen revolution started decades ago, pen companies in Japan have been competing to introduce newer and better gel pen lines. Each pen comes with an entourage of glorious new colors and multiple tip sizes. Though the Pilot Hi-Tec-C is the cornerstone for thin gel pens, each new line introduced every year has its own attractions. For example, the tips of the Uni-Ball Signo DX and the Pentel Slicci are much sturdier than the Pilot Hi-Tec-C, and thus can withstand a heavy hand and more pen writing abuse. That being said, whichever pen you decide upon, we know that you will be very impressed with the writing ability and construction of Japanese pens.

The following are some close-up pictures of the pen tips from three of the most popular gel pens on JetPens. From left to right the pens are: Uni-Ball Signo DX, Pentel Slicci, and Pilot Hi-Tec-C.

For September we couldn't resist picking the adorable picture by JetPens Flickr friend kkkataish shown here.

We loved the use of a fountain pen as Jet-Do's rocket and we also admired the ornate design in the flames and on the body of the pen. It's a quite nice-looking ride! The colors and gradations were great, and the added touch of using a white pen on a colored background won brownie points. Great job kkkataish!

(Picture above shows the Platinum Preppy Fountain pen, Preppy Fluorescent Highlighter, and Preppy Sign Marker.)

The designers of the Platinum Preppy line had environmental conservation and practicality in mind. Ink for the Preppy line can be refilled with an ink cartridge, and the tip of the marker and highlighter line can be replaced. One simple pen can undergo years of use and abuse. This article illustrates how to replace the tip of the Preppy Sign Marker and Preppy Fluorescent Highlighter. Though the pictures only show the Preppy Sign Marker, the exact same steps will work for the Preppy Fluorescent Highlighter as well.

How to:

1. Find the white color base of the marker or highlighter tip.

2. Pull the old tip straight out with your fingers.

3. Insert your new marker tip and push tightly to close.

There you have it! You have saved the environment and money by replacing the tip of your Preppy pen!
