The Uni-ball Style Fit multi pen system is a very customizable line. You can have anywhere from 3-5 different components, choosing from pen refills available in gel ink or oil-based ballpoint ink, and also a mechanical pencil component.
Drafting pencils have some great designs, and are even used by consumers for things other than drafting. These specialized mechanical pencils usually appeal to the more technical demographic, and are enjoyed by artists, students and engineers alike.
A very popular feature that people look for is a retractable lead tip. This handy quality allows the lead guide pipe to retract back into the pencil body, which will keep it protected in storage and during transit. A retractable tip is usually found in higher-end models and is a great form of insurance to make sure your pencil lasts for a long time.
JetPens has compiled a list of all the drafting pencils we carry which have retractable tips, which you can view below:
The Ohto Super Promecha 1500P Mechanical Drafting Pencils have a heavier, full-metal body and lets you customize everything from the length of lead dispensed with each click to the length of the guide pipe.
The Pentel Graphgear 1000 Mechanical Drafting Pencils are some of our most popular pencils, and are available in 5 different point sizes. They also feature a sturdy little binder clip that can attach the pencil to thicker objects than just a standard notebook cover.
The Rotring 800 Drafting Pencils have been frequently requested at JetPens, and we are glad to finally carry them. These are the higher-end version of their 600 model counterpart, and though they do not feature a lead grade indicator, they have a beautiful retractable sleeve and gold accents for a more sophisticated look.
The Uni-ball Shift Pipe Lock Drafting Pencils has a unique shift and lock mechanism, which retracts the lead sleeve, and is is targeted at heavy users such as students and designers.
The Pilot Hi-Tec-C gel ink pens are one of our personal JetPens favorites as far as fine lines and smooth writing go. These are one of the few pens we carry that produce mechanical pencil-looking lines with gel ink.
The Hi-Tec-C pens are available in 0.25 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm and 0.5 mm sizes. The fine tips are pretty fragile though, so they will bend if dropped without the cap or possibly even from a very heavy handed writer. Regardless, this is the perfect pen for writing detailed notes in a smaller area. The ink is a special gel formula that dries quickly and does not smudge as easily as other gel ink pens. Some people do find the smaller point sizes (0.25 and 0.3 mm) to be a little scratchy, and they will poke through thinner paper like post-its or copier paper.
Another bonus is that the same great writing and ink quality of this pen is available in a fancier form. Let's face it, if you are going to use this pen to take notes in a high-stakes executive power meeting, the original clear plastic body can look a little cheap. For this reason Pilot has the Hi-Tec-C Cavalier pen which is a more sophisticated and formal version, that is refillable. The full metal body gives a nice weight in hand when writing, but it is only refillable with the designated Cavalier refills, so your soda blue or mandarin orange Hi-Tec-C refill will not work in this dressed up pen body.
Here at JetPens not only do we have a vast selection of different colored gel pens, but we also carry gel pens that have scented ink! These can be really fun to use while taking notes, writing a letter, or just doodling on your notepad, and they add a whiff of something tasty to whatever you're writing.
The Dong-A Miffy Scented Gel Ink Pens feature Dick Bruna's famous bunny character Miffy! With a 0.5 mm thickness, they're just the right size for comfortable writing and organized notes, and come in 18 great sweet scented colors.
The ever-popular Uni-ball Signo pens also come in a scented ink series! The Uni-ball Signo Scents UM-120SC Gel Ink Pens have a 0.8 mm width and are available in ten different color and scent combinations.
The Zebra Laflleche Sweets Scents Gel Ink Pens give you the sweet fragrance of your favorite desserts every time you take notes. It's pigment ink is water resistant and writes in vibrant colors.
Lastly, the Zebra Pticolon Gel Ink Pens not only write well, but smell great too! Only the 8 color set is available, with the pens in 0.8 mm size.
The structure of the Kuretake Fountain Hair Brush Pen is basically the same as a regular fountain pen, with an ink cartridge inside and a brush end nib.
Sometimes the ink in the brush nib can harden after a long period of no usage. If this happens, you can take the following steps to get the pen going again:
1) Remove the ink cartridge from inside the pen barrel.
You can save a full ink cartridge by covering the opening with some scotch tape and storing with the opened side up.
2) Soak the brush pen nib in room temperature or warm water. Make sure to change out the water when it is saturated with ink, until the water is no longer black. (1-5 days)
Please do not remove the metal part or disassemble the brush part, in order to prevent ink leakage.
3) Rinse the clean brush nib with running water, and remove the excess water using some tissue. Leave it in a shady spot for a day or so, to let it air dry.
If you put the nib back before it is dry, the ink may leak from the side.
4) Insert a new ink cartridge.
After you insert the ink cartridge, the writing might be a bit weak in color due to the moisture left in the brush nib. If you keep wring for a while, the color of the ink will go back to the original color.
To avoid this pen drying out in the first place, Kuretake recommends to use this pen often, without a long period of no usage. Also when you finish writing, they recommend to lightly dry any excess ink off the nib with some tissue before you put the cap back on.
