Craft: How to Create a Layered Image Using UM-153 White and Gold Pens
By: Guest Craft Artist Shirley Thompson

This craft project shows how you can create a beautiful layered image using the Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 gel pens from JetPens.com. The UM-153 gel pen is a favorite among scrapbooking and crafts artists. The ink flow is smooth and the colors are nice and rich. Nine colors are available at JetPens.com.

What you need: one Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen - White Ink, one Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen - Gold Ink, vellum paper (pearlescent was used here), green cardstock scrap for leaves, and double sided tape or craft glue (NOT white glue).

For this project a rose clipart was chosen. it was resized to approximately 2 inches. You can resize the image using just about any photo program.

1. Trace the image. Start with the outside lines first and trace using a Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen - Gold Ink pen.

Decide what you want the next layer to be and trace.

Continue to trace the next layers as shown.

This shows the end result of layers traced. Allow the ink to dry.

2. Cut out each of the images traced.

3. Assemble the flower.

Work from the bottom layer up. Use your original clipart as a guide by placing the vellum on top of the clipart so that you can see the lines. Do NOT glue the clipart to the vellum.

Adhere glue to the back center of the next layer. The vellum curls naturally, which works nicely for this rose.

Continue to work up until all layers are added.

The finished product will look like this. You can curl your petals up a little more for style.

4. With the Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen - Gold Ink pen draw leaves on green cardstock scrap. Cut the leaves out.

5. Decorate a mat for your flower. You can use your Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen - White Ink to make dots and stitches on colored cardstock paper.

5. Paste your leaves and flowers onto the paper mat. You're done! You've created a beauitful layered image.

You can use this layered flower as the main embellishment for all types of cards and crafts. The image below shows a card created with colored card stock, pattern card stock, and ribbon. The outline was created with stitches from a Uni-ball Signo Broad UM-153 Gel Pen - White Ink. Have fun experimenting!
