Gelly Rolls!

starjanae - 15 Oct 2005, 10:13 pm
So I went to Pearl Paint today in search of pens and I couldn't help myself when I spotted the sets of Gelly Roll pens. I haven't used a Gelly Roll pen since about 5th grade, but they've gotten a bit more hi-tech since then. ;) I purchased the Moonlight set, the Meteor Stardust set, and the Glaze Set (which is so cool with the raised effects!). (Not to mention $35 worth of other brand individual pens.) I love them! But they really need to work harder to keep us Penaholics out of craft and stationery stores. Now I'm waiting for the Gelly Roll Souffle set!

I LOVE Gelly Rolls too!!! But I hate Pearl Paint, at least the one at Canal Street in NYC. Their stock is so messy and dirty and they never seem to have full stock on their pens!

The Souffle set is almost the same as the glaze set, only the colors are more pastel looking. Either way, Souffle and Glaze are amazing stuff! I also LOVE the stardust because the glitter is so pretty!

I also have Moonlight set, the Lighting set, and recently, the silver shadow set, which I was quite disappointed with because it looks the same as the lightning set. Their gelly rolls rock, but a Gelato pen I got wasn't that great.

I wish we had a good stationary store...all we have are Staples, Office Max, and JoAnn (for crafts)...

The Pearl Paint we have around here is great (sorry Yumi!). :D It's very big, organized, and has almost every art supply an artist dreams of. And they even have an aisle with some pens, where I found the gelly rolls.

I love the Stardust, especially at night time when I hold it under a light. The glitter looks prettiest like that. I think my favorite so far is the Moonlight collection, though.

Betty, what do you use the Glaze and Souffle for? I decorated the cover of a notebook, and I'm going to try decorating a CD later.

I also have the Lightning set. I was looking for the Silver Shadow, because it looks so cool on their website, but now I'm glad I couldn't find it. Sorry to hear that, Betty.

I also got an individual blue Gelato pen with everything, and it's nothing special. Just an average click gel pen. I do want to try the Genius though, anyone know when that comes out?

I feel a little delirious and giddy every time I look at my brand new, nicely stacked sets of Gelly Roll. That can't be normal...can it?

At least I have internet shopping *yay* :D

I don't use the Glaze and Souffles much. I mostly use them to decorate some cards, along with the stardust, but I like having them! Stardusts red and greens are perfect for the holidays! If you decorate a CD with the glazes, will it still be playable or is it for decorate purposes only?

I think the silver shadow is a tad bolder than the lightning perhaps, but the cap has a cuter decorate than the lightning. If I had a pick, I would choose silver shadow just because the outside seems cuter. Not worth to have both of them though.

I read the moonlights are amazing under blacklight (they glow), but I don't have any blacklight.

We got the aqualip pens in! They're pretty cool! Need to get pics of them now. Wonder how they compare to gellyroll...
betty - 18 Oct 2005, 08:17 am
The Aqualips are from the same company as gelly rolls :)
starjanae - 18 Oct 2005, 06:02 pm
I read that too, I wish I had a blacklight just so I could see what it looks like!

Soo excited about the Aqualips. Betty, do you know the difference between them, since they're made by the same company?
betty - 19 Oct 2005, 08:19 am
difference between aqualips and gelly rolls? Aqualips is the japanese name for the US Glazes, just how Ball Sign is the japanese name for the US Gelly Roll :) And Tiara is Japanese name for the Star Dusts :) I can see Souffles kept their Japanese name in the US.
starjanae - 19 Oct 2005, 03:36 pm
Ah, I see. So they are the exact same pens, just a different name? Shucks. :) I was so excited to try out the Aqualips, but I already have!

For some reason, I usually like the Japanese names more. Tiara sounds so much cooler than Stardust. But I do like the name Gelly Roll better than Ball Sign. :)
betty - 20 Oct 2005, 09:08 am
I also like the Japanese name as well better. I kinda like the Ball Sign logo and look more than gelly roll. The Ball Sign font is really pretty and it's white, compared to the the more tween font used for gelly roll and it's in black. The Japanese version just looks the pen is more luxiorous (can't spell today) even though they're the same thing.
starjanae - 20 Oct 2005, 05:30 pm
Ooh, do you have a picture of the Japanese version? The Gellyroll does look more kiddish.

I guess you can sort of see the "ball sign" logo in this picture:

I don't think I've ever been to that one.

Have you tried the one on Rt 17 N in Paramus (across from Borders or Barnes and Noble - I forget :) )

I actually like that one - although the employees don't seem to be that helpful =)

I actually can't remember if they have gelly roll pens or any Japanese pens - I haven't been there in 4 yrs :) But you can always try!

You dudes are in NYC - you have to try Kinokuniya on 6th ave and 42nd street - in Times Square. I live a block from there and I am in there all the time. If I ever win the lottery, I am buying their entire stationary department and moving it into the basement of my mansion. ^_^

PS - you know who else loves gelly rolls? COPS.

I have a purple glaze pen. I don't use it as much as I should...

Wait there's another one?....

Or do you mean Bryant Park? It looks smaller than the Rockefeller store, even tho they say it's bigger.

Or do I need to go to NY more often and get lost? :D

I'm dying to go to Kinokuniya (Bryant Park) again ....

If you write REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAALLLY slowly, they are embossed.

I like them, except they're really more for decorating, if you want the "raised" look.
Otherwise, at my reg writing speed they're just good for the "wet look"
Otherwise I have to write OUTRAGEOUSLY slowly.

The Kinokuniya I mentioned is the one by Bryant park. And conveniently, for us pen addicts, there is a monsterous staples right next door to it. ;]

Are the Gelly Roll Lightning still available?

I've never seen those.
