How Many Different Colors Is The Pilot G2 Available In?
betty - 22 Dec 2007, 10:11 pm
Do you have pictures? I can't find the new colors anywhere! Staples only has the 8 assorted color packs.

At Walmart here in the U.S. I've noticed a lot of new colors for Pilot's G2 line of gel pens. Walmart sells a ten-pack which in addition to the four standard colors (red, blue, green, black) includes purple, orange(!), turquoise, burgundy, pink, and a blackish shade of blue. Walmart also sells a four-pack of new colors which immediately caught my eye as it includes brown, clear blue (very pretty!), light green, and one which might be turquoise green or hunter green (I can't tell). Pilot's packaging gives no color information, and their North American website only lists 11 colors (black, blue, red, green, purple, pink, turquoise, burgundy, orange, hunter green, navy blue), which does not account for the colors (brown, clear blue, light green, turquoise green) found in the new four-pack--I have fourteen colors, so there's something missing here. In order to give the new shades in the ten-pack and the four-pack their approximately correct name I consulted JetPen's Hi-Tec-C chart of colors. Can anyone direct me to a link which lists, or better yet shows the complete color range for Pilot's G2 gel-pen? I have a nagging suspicion that I don't have them all yet, maybe even by a long shot. For instance, it seems to me that the very dark shade of blue in the ten-pack is much too dark to be navy blue. Surely it is blue-black or indigo! And, consulting JetPen's Hi-Tec-C chart, the dark shade of green in the new four-pack is closer to turquoise green than hunter green. All of which raises an interesting question. Does Pilot plan to offer their G2 pens in as many colors as is offered in the complete Hi-Tec-C range? Any help, especially any links in English, will be greatly appreciated!
On edit, I would like to add that I've emailed Pilot North America to inquire the total number of colors available in the G2 range but haven't heard back from them yet. Also, an advanced image search on Google using the exact phrase "Pilot G2" returned as the fifth image on the first page of results a photo showing a gold G2 next to a silver G2 and a bronze or copper G2. This is maddening. Apparently, and this is based on a news release from Pilot in 2001, Pilot sold a seven-pack of metallic G2's which included blue, purple, green, gold, silver, bronze and pink. Except for silver and bronze, these may still be available online from certain vendors, but I have never encountered a metallic G2 in any brick and mortar venue. If Pilot still manufactures five of the original seven metallic colors, that means there are at least nineteen different G2's available by my rough count (not counting differences in point size). How many more?

15? I know of the 14 Wal-Mart Sells: Black, Red, Pink, Magenta, Orange, Green, Teal, Lime, Sky Blue, Blue, Indigo, Turquoise, Violet and Brown (at least those are the names I've given them). What color am I missing and where can I get it? :?
aleoneon - 10 Sep 2008, 12:30 am
You are correct. There a 15 colors: Black Blue, Red, Green, Blue-Black, Dark Red, Turquoise, Purple, Pink, Orange, Lime Green, Caramel, Sky Blue, Hunter Green (very dark green) and Peacock Green (a nice intense blue-green) as of now.

aleoneon,
I seem to be missing the Hunter Green!
Does Wal-Mart carry it? Staples? Office Depot? On-line somewhere? :?
Thanks 8)

$25.00 US for 1 pen!   No thank you!
But thanks for the heads up... I'd already been there, though.
And just what is "VAT" that they always add? :?
onelonegunman - 12 Sep 2008, 02:02 am
I was able to find one at
Cyberpens for $2.70 US and NO shipping charges! :D
aleoneon - 13 Sep 2008, 05:07 am
Haha, I think $25.00 was for a pack of 12? Not sure about the VAT thing... that's why I always order from jetpens if I can!

No it wasn't. After the shipping was added and the VAT was added the total came to just over $25.00 US! The pen was only $3.22 US. If I could find the 3-pack it comes in at Wal-Mart I could have bought it and 2 other colors for $3.50 US + tax. As is I'm happy with my purchase.
Why doesn't JetPens carry the entire G-2 line? :?
aleoneon - 14 Sep 2008, 05:36 am
Wow, that's crazy! I think it's cause G2 is one of the lines more widely available in the states compared to the other pens which can't be found at Walmart? It wouldn't be too difficult to get them in though I don't think they're in as much of a demand now..

Try as I have I can not find one good source for Pilot G-2's. Even Pilot's own US site does not show all the colors and even translated I can't make heads or tails out to the Japanese site! No where can I find reference to any metallic colors for the G-2. The best "official" names that I can come up with for the 15 non-metallic colors are: Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Purple (though I would call it Violet, there is a difference), Navy (sometimes referred to as Blue-Black or Indigo and yes Navy is a very dark Blue), Burgundy, Carmel, Periwinkle (Blue), Lime (Green), Hunter (Green), Peacock Green, Turquoise, Pink and Black.
Hey, dragonshark, what are the 5 metallic colors? and where did you find them and when? :?
onelonegunman - 29 Sep 2008, 05:56 pm
I had to go out today so after my appointment I went to an Office Depot to look around. There I saw a Pilot 12 pack of assorted G-2's in colors. I didn't have anything to write on so I can't tell you all the colors in the pack. I did see Turquoise, Pink, 2 Blacks, Navy, Green, Red, Blue, Burgundy, Orange, Violet... I guess I did remember them all! Oh, yea, and HUNTER GREEN! I was so surprised to see it there. Now why they don't just package the entire 20 colors together I'll never know... Oh, wait! I did see all 20 (19 really, but it was originally a 20 pack) on eBay. But that is the only time I've seen all 20 together (OK, 19). The pack at Office Depot is the first time I've seen the Hunter Green for sale in the US. I can do without the metallics (I still don't know what colors they are) so I wish that Pilot would just put all 15 regular colors into a 15 pack. I would have bought it if they had. Go figure.

It appears Pilot has reconfigured their U.S. website and that the G2 in Hunter Green is now available in a three-pack of mixed colors (the others are Navy and Orange), 0.7 size! Other than the metallics, which may or may not be in current production, Hunter Green is the only color I am missing among the non-metallic group of fifteen which I surmised existed in the OP. I have yet to see this three-pack in any brick-and-mortar venue, and maddeningly Pilot still refuses to identify the colors included in their blister-packs right on the packaging. Here is the link to the three-pack which includes Hunter Green:

I just noticed today that the UK's Pilot website shows 17 colors for the G2. I can't tell if this includes metallic colors. I can't quite tell from the little color droplets/swatches what all the colors are...

OK - so - on the Pilot JP Website, strangely, they only have
Red, Blue & Black.
no other colors listed!
Why. lol :)
Does anyone have the numbers off of the refills (already inside the pen), or even off a single UPC sticker on on of their singular pens? Turquoise, Hunter Green, Burgundy, etc....
=) It can easily be deciphered from there!
