Pilot Fabric Marker Pen Question...
watermeloneaterman - 03 Nov 2008, 11:41 am
Just wondering if anyone has had success with the Pilot Fabric Marker Pen.
I've tried drawing on a tshirt and water washes it right off. Would heat set the ink?
Any suggestions would be awesome.

Try heat setting the ink on a piece of scrap. If it works then you have your answer. 8)

Am going to do that when I get a chance. Just thought it might be something else I could do (pre-treating fabric or protective spray). Thanks for the reply! Will post results when done.

Tried the heat. After a couple of washes, image on shirt almost gone. Even washed the shirt inside-out for those two times. Well, I guess I'm going to have to look some more.
Thought I should update this post....anyhoo....

Ssounds like the pen has a water based dye ink instead of a pigmented ink. Try using a Sharpie, one of the extra or ultra fine pointed ones. They come in as many colors as the regular Sharpies do. Just remember to put the T-shirt over a piece of cardboard so the marker won't bleed through to the other side of the shirt. Either that or try and find a different fabric pen.
Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the tip. Just hoping the pen was pigment based. Might as well use ink from my large format digital printer and a dip-pen. That ink will never wash out. Thanks again!

Ha. Good thing I found this thread.
I was about to buy one of these, thinking it wouldn't wash out in the washing machine.
I would have wasted my money =)
