Sakura Pigma Micron Drawing Pen

onelonegunman - 16 Dec 2008, 03:11 am
I was able to find Sakura Pigma Micron drawing pens at a local variety store. I was only able to buy one so I bought the 005 (0.20mm) tip.

what think you of it? I quite like them, mostly in slightly larger sizes.

So far... I like it a lot! Writes smooth, very fine plastic point, nice dark ink, a very nice technical pen. As often as I can I plan on buying them all, smaller sizes first. 8)

Gunman - since you have a new Micron 005, maybe you can compare this better than I can (mine is some years old and tends to fade too much). But it looks to me like the Slicci .25 is actually a finer line than the 005 Micron. I don't have any of the Hi-tec C's, but do have a Uni Bit .18 and the latter seems defitely finer and is more a needle point, which could well be used for technical work. Was just wondering if you would be able to compare any of these out and see what you'd recommend for fine work and a good quality line, etc. So we could see how the 005 compares to some of these other fine line pens. Just if you can......thanks!

It's hard to tell from the pic but it appears that the order of thinness is the bit, the unipin, the Hi-Tech-C/Slicci and the Micron brings up the rear, but not by much.

Thanks Gunman! Excellent comparison! Very much appreciate it.

I used to work at a tshirt, lava lamp selling store that would make those necklaces with names and what not on a grain of rice, now that I look at your new pen I think we used the micron when we would make those.

That is a great comparison onelonegunman :)!

Well, I'll mention some thoughts, but in the end, you'll have to try things out for yourself and find what works best for *you* and go from there.

If you're looking to *sketch* or do real artwork, I'd think the natural media based programs might be of interest to you. Corel Painter is the most well known commercial product. They have an *Essentials* version of it that's lighter weight and less cost....and sometimes included with other products and software as well (I think you get a copy if you buy PhotoImpact right now). Another product, with both a commercial (shareware) and freeware (lighter weight) version is Pixarra TwistedBrush. Here is a link to the latter:

http://www.pixarra.com/

The free version of TB may be well worth checking out to see if you like this type of program.

There are some other freebies as well, like Pixia, etc., but they get into general graphic editing type programs. The GIMP is another that's compared more to PhotoShop.

If you like commercial applications, consider Photoshop (essentials or whatever version is lighter weight and less cost), Corel's PhotoImpact or Paint Shop Pro, or if you like a vector app as well, CorelDRAW suite, which includes Corel PhotoPaint.

There's other stuff out there too, and if you have Windows, you probably have MS Paint already installed...which is a very light weight application, but you can do basic stuff with it, and at no extra cost. Also, checkout some of the freeware sites and look around their graphic editing software sections for other apps to consider.

Hope this helps a bit...

Hi everyone, I am 24 years old a college student and drawing is my part time option. Actually it is my hobby to time pass. I am looking for software to draw a sketch using my tablet pen-partner. I need your help for this. Can you inform such software? Thank you so much in advance. Also I want to do some animation work. Please help me.

President Obama and first lady-Michelle, holding a Sakura Pigma Micron on Election day, November 4, 2008 (they cast their votes with Pigma Microns). Note: it is a pdf file with the picture and some text on Sakura Pigma Micron pens.

Hihihi...
I was actually at the Sakura's homepage (for US customers), just wanted to check out the new pens/products that they have available, and then right in front of the home page, BAM! The Obamas caught my attention. Hats-off to Sakura for their advertising techniques.

Me neither! You take the "historic presidential election" and turn it into "its all about the Sakura Pigma Microns", now that's what i call advertising!
