Show your handwriting!

starjanae - 06 Nov 2005, 11:07 pm
For each and every one of you who is bored right now: grab your digicam, paper, best pens, and show us your handwriting (and swatches of all your favorite pens, while we're at it)! Last one to do it is a rotten egg. :D
yeechi - 07 Nov 2005, 12:05 am
Well, I'm the first (and only?) one, so I guess I'm the current rotten egg. ;)

Yeechi,

Your handwriting is so pretty!!!!!!!!!! People have seen my handwriting from some swatches that I did already. It looks kind of primary school-ish at some levels. But yours is very neat!

starjanae - 07 Nov 2005, 06:29 pm
Yeechi-love your handwriting! What is the "Love Pet" pen?

Betty, post again anyway! If only for the sake of not being a rotten egg on this particular thread. ;) Show your favorite pens!
yeechi - 08 Nov 2005, 12:56 am
Thanks guys ^^

Speaking of rotten eggs, I think Star hasn't posted her writing here either!

The Lovepet pen is some novelty Korean gel pen I picked up at a Vancouver Asian Night Market... it's got pictures of a dog on it. It's square, which is different. It came in different colors, and I'm kind of sad I didn't pick up more, but oh well.
Dudleylau - 08 Nov 2005, 01:21 am
all of us are rotten eggs!!! at least for now.. so when are night markets in Vancouver, i want to go but never remember when and where, care to share??
Dudleylau - 08 Nov 2005, 02:53 am
Alright, I'm bombarding this thread with my collection.... or what's left of it after people stealing from me :(

Image
**notes:
1.mickey pen is crudy, kept it only cause my friend gave it to me. only cool thing about it is that mickey magnet near the clicker of this retractible.
2. the Ceramicron was cool in before i dropped it on the ground, now it's only good to stab people (really i actually accidentally stabbed myself with this and bled, but it still works great..until impact with rock solid surfaces...)
3. the Sheaffer retractible was my favorite pen from middle school up till high school, simply because its clear and pretty. its cracking now and i cant find proper refils ever since 9th grade. I had to trim refill caridges to make them fit(like this parker one) into this pen. I would use it more, but i don't want to break it from normal use... my precious...
4. Cross Ion's retracting mechanism is cool (even the sound of it is awesome), but crappy gel cartridges and the shell's color is fading...
5. Sakura tiarra is pretty n sparkly!! i try to reserve this much as possible cause i cant find it anymore (nor do i have any use for it...)
Dudleylau - 08 Nov 2005, 02:59 am
Part Deux:

Image
*notes:

1. Uni Powertank has a very comfortable FAT, textured grip, but the ink is nothing spectacular.
2. Multiball. smooth and effortless writing... rubber grip too!
3. NT Cutter, weapon of choice, full metal body with tough black plastic accents. Has a nice heavy feel for its size.
4. Boxxy rox!
Dudleylau - 08 Nov 2005, 03:05 am
Part Tre:

Image

*Notes:
1. All of these are my favorite pencils.
2. Wish that unknown pencil was made with better plastic, its starting to break, but i loe how its loooong (like about 1/3 longer than normal)
3. I'm a little NEON color phobic....when i was a kid i used to have a whole bunch of highlighters ( i guess i used them too much), and staring at them too much makes me nauseated @.@
starjanae - 08 Nov 2005, 03:46 pm
Dudley, that itsby bitsy Cross Ion is so cute! The Pilot Multiball is also a very nice blue...where did you get it?

Don't worry, yeechi, I'll get mine up as soon as I get the chance. :D My handwriting is nowhere near as nice as any of yours, however...it looks a bit childish.

Has anyone considered how utterly obsessed we are? I just had a mental image of each of us holing up in a dark room all alone, taking out our pens and taking pictures of them with crazed smiles...creepy!
Dudleylau - 08 Nov 2005, 04:44 pm
Gosh that would be creepy wouldnt it?? I got the three blue pens from a friend that came back from Osaka. I had a green one too but i gave that to my girlfriend (more like she stole it).

Yeah it used to be my favorite pen, until i got some refills that were crappy, it also came with a lanyard and a nice case too, but i rarely use those.
yeechi - 09 Nov 2005, 02:16 am
Dudley,

Another Seattle-lite, eh? In theory, we could get together and er, pen obsess... :) Anyway, I went to the Richmond Night Market (so it really isn't in Vancouver proper), and I believe they have it on Wed and Sat nights. I'm not sure if the pens are always there, as I've only been there once. It was nice to have Asian prices (they were CDN$1).
Dudleylau - 09 Nov 2005, 02:50 am
yeechi,

yep, i noticed you were a gradstudent too hehe, but im jsut an undergrad =P. I might have stumbled upon the night market once, is it like in front of safeway or another grocery store??

haha, imagine the looks we get when we bust out our precious pens at some coffee joint and grovel over our bounty.
betty - 09 Nov 2005, 11:02 am
Nice picture collection Dudley. Looks like it's almost time to replace your Hi-Tec-C pens....they're running low!

The Tiara pens are the same as the American Stardust pens except different names. If anything, I can help you purchase the Tiara pens at the Japanese stores, but just remember a japanese store in the US is expensive!!!
Dudleylau - 09 Nov 2005, 12:54 pm
Oh i see, thanks for the offer, i dont use it much at all, so I'll ask or look around when the time comes.
yumihuynh - 09 Nov 2005, 05:52 pm
How to ever display all of my pens...since majority are ball point pens, I don't see much of a point displaying each and every pen I own. (Too many to display them all)

I guess you guys only want pens displayed... I now own about...30+ pens now...I can display some of my pretty Japanese stationary :D

yeah...I'll do some of that... :D
betty - 09 Nov 2005, 05:58 pm
Display pens and pencils that look special or that you think is worth displaying. I especially want to see afternoon tea and the Mickoko London stuff since I've never heard of both of them before.
yumihuynh - 09 Nov 2005, 06:28 pm
Well, I guess I lost my USB plug attachment, so I can't upload anything...I'll have to get a new one.. (^_^;||)

I did take pictures of some of my stationary tho'...,but like I said, I can't uploard anything b/c of lack of USB attachement...

The displayed stationary is only a SMALL amount of stationary I have. As I mentioned before I have a wheeled, office drawers specifically for my office goodies...(I'd have to make an inventory)
1st batch: in no particular order... Let's go Left to right...

Savon (glittery bubbles) stationary paper w/envelopes *also from Maru Maru Dept. in Tokyo*, Constellation stationary w/envelopes (almost wax-like parchment paper) causes pencil lead to smear, repells ink...next, Purple version of Starry Night (Aluminum envelope, glittery scene), BLACKBLACK stationary (in blue and black), Dolphins, Star Sand (pastel and silver glitter) *Also from Maru Maru Dept. in Tokyo*

2nd batch: Right bottom making my way from Left to right. 1. Sushi-nery 2. Sakura Diary (San-X) 3. Bear Museum (Lists historical fact about Teddy Bears) 4. Pastel watercolors of guppi fish (Kamio) 5. Penguin Stationary (Kamio) 6. "Light Feeling" (Clover stationary..Kamio) 7. Hanabi (Fireworks) paper w/envelopes (Maru Maru dept. in Tokyo)

Third Batch: 1st row: Right to left : "Hello! Hello" (In multiple colors, a clean and crisp looking stationary), Blue version of Starry Night,
2nd row: Left to right: Strawberry field (Japanese Hallmark), Dainty flowers (Japanese Hallmark), Snow flakes (Japanese Hallmark), Sailing theme (Akio), Dolphins (?)

Sorry if the picture's not clear...my digicam isn't the best quality...
*Is flustered how to display all her pens* It'll take me a month to test them all...(literally) *breaks out in a sweat*
starjanae - 10 Nov 2005, 11:37 am
Yumi, I can't see any pictures.

No pictures either. Can't wait to see your pens. So far from all the pictures I displayed here, I feel rather embarrassed to own SO many pens.
yumihuynh - 10 Nov 2005, 09:37 pm
I didn't display/upload any pictures YET!!! I lack a USB attachment to upload my pictures.

I was just putting all the things in order before I upload any images and clog up the board. :D

As to how to organize my pens, I still am trying to figure out what would be the best way...since...most are just ballpoint pens anyhow (they write smooth and look very nice, but...they're pens) ^^;;
falkon - 20 Nov 2005, 04:31 am

Cool! Falkon is that a poem or song?
falkon - 22 Nov 2005, 01:35 am
Song.

From a recent anime that I very much enjoyed called Fullmetal Alchemist.

Although nowadays with school, I don't have time to watch at all anymore. I'm lucky if i finish a series in 2 or 3 quarters.
yumihuynh - 22 Nov 2005, 02:59 pm
Actually, its a song by Japanese rock/pop band L'Arc~en~Ciel (Laruku)

:D They do often have such songs used for beg. & ending theme music
Dudleylau - 22 Nov 2005, 03:31 pm
Im glad asia uses normal songs for theme songs. L'Ark en ciel is awesome too
falkon - 22 Nov 2005, 04:04 pm
L'arc~en~ciel is awesome but I still prefer orchestral arrangements for anime stuff. Yoko Kanno comes to mind (probably the best living composer on Earth).
Dudleylau - 22 Nov 2005, 06:41 pm
cant beat my Final fantasy orchestrated collection =P
yumihuynh - 22 Nov 2005, 07:31 pm
Having been a L'Arc~en~Ciel fan for a while now...(end of H.S. ...wow, that's now been 8 years ;_;) I'm so old!!

Plus many Japanese anime is more dramatic than your average cartoons
falkon - 23 Nov 2005, 12:51 am
I do very much like the FF Orchestral collection but if I were to pick anything from FF I'd take the FF X-II piano collection. 1000 Words, Yuna's Ballad, Wind Crest, etc.. so many good tracks.

But still, the Cowboy Bebop soundtracks kick FF ass anyday!
I'd take Yoko Kanno over Nobuo Uematsu anyday!
yumihuynh - 23 Nov 2005, 09:47 am
Oh my! Well, if you're gonna talk Yoko Kanno...don't forget Maaya (From Lodoss Wars and other stuff)
davidw89 - 31 May 2006, 07:26 am

Here's mine:

sorry for the poor image quality, it was captured on my camera phone. Even so, it is obvious my handwriting is awful and fluctuates greatly depending on what pen I use. It is based on print as I have never learnt to write cursive.
 I CAN do a mean italic with a standard dipping broad nib though :D
IvaliceResident - 24 Jun 2008, 12:01 pm
Ummmmm that's some pretty good handwriting. I hate to say it but you're right, your cursive is not as good as your print. Then again, if you haven't learned it (and more importantly, forcibly used it in school), you can't really get good at it. But the print is totally fine and the fact that you can write in a straight line without printed lines (pink at top and blue at bottom) to guide you is pretty good in my book.
aleoneon - 25 Jun 2008, 09:13 am
Haha thanks! Does anyone have any tips on practising quick, efficient, but beautiful handwriting?
badzy - 01 Aug 2008, 03:45 pm
yumihuynh,
yeah dude handwriting changes depending on the pen used

too many mechanical pencils!!

I've been working a little bit on my handwriting.. my fingers look retarded!

If I only had a digital camera I'd show everyone a sample of my hen-scratch.
onelonegunman - 23 Sep 2008, 03:32 pm
OK, here's a sample or two of my hen scratchings. I've also listed 95-97% of my estimated collection of pens, pencils, colored pencils, highlighters and markers. There may be a few duplicates I've left out but for the most part this is it, for now.

I like the huge pages, the consistency of the writing really stands out! Your handwriting is really neat! Has it always been like that?
onelonegunman - 09 Oct 2008, 09:21 pm
Actually, no. At one point, early in life, I couldn't write at all!

Thanks for the kudos.

My cursive is worse, a lot worse. Except for my signature I print only. I try and make my printing as neat as possible. It gets better if I slow down when I write. The problem is I do all my writing in a recliner, on a clipboard, with a pillow in my lap. If I had a writing desk I'm sure that I could improve my handwriting. My "normal" style is slanted but I took up writing straight when on a job I had to fill out a lot of forms. I began using a writing aid as well, a RapiDesign Lettering Aid #925. It has four sets of parallel openings that I can write in. All CAPS and all the same height. Because it's hard to use when I'm dot at a desk I've all but given it up. Now I can't determine if I write better at a slant or straight up and down. Go figure.

btw I still do not have a digital camera. But I do have a scanner attached to my computer which is how I got the 'photos' of my hen's scratching.

Here's an example of my handwriting using Lepens. If I use a thinner pen, than my handwriting gets smaller, so this is a bit larger than it usually is. Image
EDIT: Why isn't it showing up? any tips guys? I'm not sure how to do this...

I don't know where you copied the image link from, but what I did was to cut and paste the link in your pic to my browsers addy bar. Once I was at the pic I right clicked on the pic and chose "Copy Image Location". Once back here I replaced the original addy with the one I'd copied. Often, for reasons unknown to me, coping the addy from the "Address Bar" does not give me a good link to the pic. Using the above procedure is hoe I do it. - onelonegunman

PS You might want to cut the image size down in the camera. Mine is set for pis 1600 by 1200 and that's ample enough for good pics.

Copying image URL and pasting in new tab works, so obviously blogger image hosting is blocking other sites from including its images. Get around this by uploading to a general purpose image host like photobucket or imageshack or tinypic.

What a great idea to do a page of writing with all the pens you have. You can then use them as reference ! I will do that in future & post back here. And I know what most of you are saying about spending so much money on stationary.. ! I think I ordered twice from JP in a month ! >.< Both hauls over $100.

JonelB - 24 Jun 2009, 02:39 pm
That's funny...I think I've spent less than $50 so far. My next order will put me over that mark, but my first order was $25 and some change, and the second, with the $2-off credit(for following them on twitter) was $24-something.
Both <were> totally worth it, but I gotta admit, it does pay to shop around for some of their things.
Like for the Pentel Slicci(singles), it's only $15(plus free shipping) for a pack of 10 on ebay. That's where I'll be getting mine from. Singles are cheaper here, but I hardly ever buy anything in singles if I can help it.
Also the 10-pack of the Coletos are cheaper on ebay as well. You can also get a set of 10, but ask for more of a certain color from this one ebay seller.
I am a loyal Jetpens customer for most things(they do have things no one else has), but meh, it's not my fault their prices are a little steep in areas.

Hi, I'm new to Jet Pens. My Stylo Fine Pens in SF went out of business and so I've been looking for a new pen store. I haven't purchased from Jet Pens yet, but I will wait until after my birthday to see if I get any items from my wishlist before I make any purchases.

I've had a thing for pens since 3rd grade -- I was so distracted by my stationery sets that I received low marks for attention, time management, and ability to remain on task. There's absolutely no way I could, or would want to, keep an inventory of all my pens. Not even just for the ones I like. I could, but I'd be frightened by how much it was. Here are some samples of some pens. You'll have to forgive the sloppiness as my thumb is numb due to nerve damage right now (but it's getting better).

Apparently I don't know how to use bbcode, so just copy-paste the links if you want to see.

It's not that you don't know how to use BBCode because your execution was correct. It's the fact that your URL was not that of a pic but a page in Facebook! To use the BBCode for images the URL has to include the actual jpeg image and end in the image name.

Thus this: http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs184.snc1/6135_117589939281_603264281_2966259_7493206_n.jpg

Becomes this: Image

All I did was cut and paste your Facebook URL then instead of using the URL in the navigation bar I right clicked on the photo and clicked on "copy image location". That gave me the URL for the image which I used in this post!
JonelB - 05 Jul 2009, 12:24 pm
BBCode Guide from Data for Dummies
spling
Also, firefox and Opera both have a handy right-click feature, where you can "copy image address" (in opera) or similar in firefox(I don't use it that much). Basically you can snag images, and then link back to the image page using "hidden url" and the img bbcode to make the image url an image on the page.
Make sense?
It's actually really easy. There's buttons up at the top, and you can highlight the parts you want to do for that, and then click the button, and it'll automatically put the img tags onto each end of it. so then it'd look like this:
CODE:
[url= "link to image page/online page" ] [img] link to image [/img] [/url]

You can also just put an image:
CODE:
 [img] Link to image [/img]

and simple hidden links are:

CODE:
[url= "link to page"] text [/url]

It's also always a good idea to preview an image post before you submit it.
motdakasha - 05 Jul 2009, 03:32 pm
Thanks, I just forgot that the link goes to a page not an image.

No problemo.
I used to live on forums(literally, they were my life) I started one up once, I've moderated a few, adminned on one or two. BBcode was the first thing I mastered and from there I moved onto basic html editing(I still cheat and use page editor for fancy stuff, but I use it to churn out long lines of code and then go in and spot-edit to get what I want).

Now if only my handwriting was as easy to fix.
