Something like a Rotring 600 series?

Hi. I'm new here.

A few years ago, I had a Rotring 600 series ballpoint pen that I managed to score on eBay for about $20. I really liked the feel of it -- hexagonal cross section, heavy, thin. I thought the refill inside was just average, but it was the same size as a Parker, so I replaced the refill with a nice fine point Parker refill.

One day a few years ago, I left the pen on my desk at work, and the next morning it was gone. I was really annoyed, but I figured that I could just go and buy another one for $20. Well, I figured wrong!

Eventually, I bought a Zebra F-701 to fill that gap, and I like it, but it's not as heavy and not as thin.

How is the A.G. Spalding & Bros Hexagonal Body Ballpoint Pen by comparison? I can't tell from the description if the body is dense metal or lightweight aluminum. Any other pens in the same vein I should look in to?

can't help you much on the specific details regarding the a.g. spalding and bros. pen mainly because i dont own one. i did a little research and found some specs i thought you might be interested in.

the rotring 600 series mechanical pencil specifications list the pencil to be at 18 grams. i couldn't find the specs on the pen, so i figured the pencil would be similar in weight, give or take an ounce or two.

the a.g. spalding and bros. hexagonal pen, even though it looks like a thin aluminum, weighs in at a whopping 0.8 oz, or 22.6796 grams, which easily outweighs the rotring 600.

hope that helps.

Actually, that helps a lot. Thanks!

** EDIT **
On the weight of your advice, I now have a hex pen (and a few other goodies) on order.

Just received my A.G. Spaulding & Bros. Hex pen. Very nice. Heavy as advertised. Don't have a scale handy to compare it to my Zebra F-701, but they feel roughly the same. Seems the Spaulding also take a Zebra ballpoint sized refill.

Thought it might be a top-heavy, but it's actually only by a little bit. I just noticed it more because the Zebra F-701 is bottom heavy. When holding the pen, the hex pen has the center of mass about an inch further from the paper than the Zebra does.

glad you're happy with it. it does indeed look like a nice pen. kinda deceiving isn't it? the metal looks so thin in the pictures.
