What do you use Sharpies for?
betty - 04 Sep 2005, 12:28 am
I'm sure almost everyone in here has at least one Sharpie. Besides using it to write on CDs, what else is a Sharpie good for? I have that 24 color set and I don't see myself reaching for the other colors besides black, blue, red at all. I really don't know what other uses for a Sharpie are? They bleed through paper, so regular writing is out....

I don't really use them at all. I can't stand the smell of them. Sometimes I might use them on top of my Prismacolor markers for ink drawings, for the smallest details. Otherwise I just let my sister use them to decorate her cds. :D

I have a black one, and pastel pack I bought. The pastel pack I let my tutor students use to decorate magnetic business cards (the kind used in advertisements, the size of business cards), the black one I use to mark folders with each student I have, or business, or tax folder... and for cds.. :D

They are perfect to use in a lab. They write on glass and they come off clean with a swipe of ethanol. :D

THANK YOU!! I was trying to think of how to reuse some of my files I had written w/my sharpie!!
I will try that! :D

ooOoh, I meant the come off GLASS with a swipe of ethanol -- they come off paper not so much.
If that's not what you're saying, I'm confused. :)

Actually, Sharpie comes off of a lot of things if you soak it with enough solvent. But people rarely soak papers in organic solvents...

I agree! Sharpies are very useful in the lab, although I normally use the fine tip black ones. I love the other colors, but can't seem to find a use for them other than labeling textbooks, binders, notebooks, etc.

They are good for making signs, posters, school projects, writing on clear plastic food container lids, on baggies, metal (like aluminum foil), glass, packages (the postal/UPS kind). You can use then on clear plastic overhead projector sheets. You can use them to decorate a white paper lamp shade... just to name a few things.
When I used to work for the Expressway Authority as a Toll Collector we had large rolls of receipt paper in the booths. I worked the night shift so traffic was light. I used Sharpies to make simple drawings on the edges of the rolls! Of course the art work was destroyed once the roll was used...

I package up a lot of things for shipment in my job. The sharpie I normally use to scribble over old packing data was getting a bit old, so I was so thrilled today to see someone left me a new one! :D

Some people use it for drawing cartoons. But I never use it because I could never control the darkness and unblendability... Sometimes for decorating shirts or writing on them. They fade with wash from the laundry though... Also, I have a canvas back, I just use that as a premlinary outline. But other than that... They're good for marking on CDs.

I use them to write on bubble mailers or packages that I send.
And I always bring one or three with me to concerts, for autographs!
