I have a nice plastic office drawers on wheels that I use to store my stationary/ Sticker/keychain/pen and pencils/p.p.pouch collection in.
it's clear and it's a handy thing!

I have a lot of cutesy Morning Glory type pencilcases that are stuffed with pens, plastic storage boxes, and most recently-home-made fabric boxes! They are really cute and add a personal touch to the storage of my pens. ;) My mother made them, she likes all the quilting stuff.

So funny! I also have a plastic storage boxes & a plastic drawer on wheels where I keep my stationery stuff :) The plastic drawers look so sloppy though, so I was wanting something that looked nicer but also big enough to store my stuff :)

wow, i guess i am the ghetto girl then. =) i keep mine facing downright in the free plastic residential computer cups i got in college. =)

starjanae, can you post a picture of the fabric boxes? they sound neat, and i'm curious to see what they actually look like. maybe i will upgrade my pens' home someday. =)
starjanae - 27 Oct 2005, 05:37 pm
Here's some pictures of the fabric boxes as requested!

I asked for this size specifically because I can fit all my pens into it! They are roughly the size of a large tissuebox.

Just showing examples, I use this one for my jewelry. :P
They are really cool, because you can make all different sizes and shapes. The cutest one I have seen is in the shape of a Chinese takeout rice box!

pretty neat boxes! Did you buy it yourself or make it yourself? I would be scared that it catches dust easily and then it'll look horrible :(
starjanae - 29 Oct 2005, 11:25 pm
Thanks, my mother made them for me (specifically to store my pens, how dorky is that?) They will eventually catch dust, probably, but I like using them for now. :)
yumihuynh - 30 Oct 2005, 03:31 pm
Just dust them off, or vacuum them! :D That's what I'd do!!
My drawers on wheels don't look that bad. It looks sleek. *nods* It sure beats stuffing them in those coffee cans. (Which I also have in my computer room.) (^^;)

My home looks like a sloppy mess thanks for a brother who refuses to throw away anything, probably because he's too lazy. Life at home consists of gaming all day..*sigh*...so the plastic cart kinda looks sloppy too once your home is already a mess.

I had them in my backpack pocket, but then it broke, so I "borrowed" an empty cereal box that was in my dorm kitchen. when I needed to go to class or library I'd grab two or three at random and stuff them in my pocket.
I still have the cereal box since I'm too lazy to get by backpack fixed.
Slush99 - 15 Jul 2006, 05:50 am
besides the......mug...... i have this gold box where I put my Cores.
And there's this cardboard box my Penatia came in. I put a few pens in that, too.

I put my pens in various pencil cases, and all of THOSE are put in two shoeboxes.
My fountain pens are in my Igloo Safe - standing vertical - where I keep all my notebooks, as well as a few other good pens.

I have an arts and craft "tackle box" (no tray)(from Wal-Mart) that I keep the ones I'm not using (and the ugly ones) in. It stays on a stool next to my living room chair. My vast collection of gel/liquid ink pens I keep in a couple of plastic boxes (from Wal-Mart also) on my side table next to my living room chair. The ones I use the most I keep in a small plastic box (also from Wal-Mart) that I keep in a small blue "milk crate" (you guessed it, from Wal-Mart) on top of the many small boxes (yes, from Wal-Mart) on my side table next to my living room chair.
Spares and refills I keep in one of those small multi-drawled plastic gray cabinets (no, not from Wal-Mart, from Lowe's) in the computer room on my very old, beat-up wooden red desk. 8)
I have so many gel/liquid ink pens that my lovely (and wise) wife won't let me buy any more.

While how and where I store my many pens has not changed I now keep most of my drafting pencils in 2 "homemade" pencil cases that were 'adapted' from other things.
My first 'soft' pencil case did not turn out so well so I revamped it. However I did not make one before offering up the plans for others to make. Then I noticed that there were a few flaws in the design! So I spent many hours fixing the design and going over and over the design in my mind before emailing those few people who had actually ask for my pencil case design and giving them the updated plans. While I have not given up on making my own soft case I have run across several items that lent themselves to redesigning and retrofitting in order to tun them into nice hardshell pencil cases.
My first redesign and retro fit was an old fabric and cardboard medical CD/DVD case that I was given when I worked for a company that was in the medical devices field. The case measures 7" x 11" x 1-1/4" when closed and I was able to retrofit it with 2 vinyl covered cardboard panels that I had sewn some elastic bands onto and turn it into a pencil case. I used a piece of sheet felt as a separator. It holds 28 pencils/pens/erasers. It turned out so nice it inspired me to take on my next retrofit project. A wooden cigar box.
I more or less inherited an broken wooden cigar box and after putting it back together I got the idea to turn it in to a pencil box. Using the same style fabric and elastic covered cardboard panels, along with a couple of sheets of Fun Foam rubber sheets as backers, I was able to make 2 pull out panels for the box. They measure 7-3/8" x 9-3/4" and hold 13 pencils each. There is just enough room vertically for the 2 panels. Had I used felt as a backing there would have been a bit more room. But as is it's fine.
Now I am about to start on my third retrofit. I came across an old tool case that I received from that same company I got the CD/DVD case from. It measures 7-1/2" x 11-3/4" x 1-1/2" when closed and will hold 28 pencils. It will be a little tricker to make the panels as the case has rounded corners and the panels will have angled corners (easier to fold fabric over). I've come up with an elaborate way to cut the fabric in order to get it folded over the corners without getting too much fabric bunched up in the corners. I don't want them too high as I have to glue the 2 panels to the inside of the vinyl case.
This one will look more like the black leather cases that I have seen on eBay but it will cost me only a fraction of the cost of one of them.

I finished the 3rd retrofit. The tool case is black vinyl and I used black vinyl for the panels. It turned out quite nicely. 8)

I have them in a few pen holders on my desk, as well as pen cases & boxes on desk and drawers :D
Have been wanting to convert some cigar box cases into pen holders but that will have to wait till after christmas, or after my exams in the next semester, or after...

Yum. Bought a metal box of chocolate today. Hope the Pentel brush pens will fit into it after I had some pleasure with these little delicacies xD

I have come up with a new idea/design for a pen/pencil case that anyone with a notebook can make. It involves, you guessed it, a common notebook binder. The one that I'm going to be designing for is one that has the rings on one side of the binder, not the spine. Dimensions would be slightly different for one with the rings on the spine. When I get it made I'll share just how it turned out. Sure wish that I had a digital camera. It's hard using a scanner on 3D objects.

sounds cool ^^ I also have several ideas of combining some essential art supply with paper in a compact form that keeps everything save -especially the tips of my drafting pencils.
You could photograph it with an analogue camera and scan the photo...

Yea, if I had an analog camera... wait, I do have an analog camera, if I just knew where, in the hidden depths of my numerous belongings, that it was buried... then there is the cost of the film, then developing it... but can't I get the images on disc? Anyway it's lost somewhere in a ton of stuff and even if I did find it the budget is tight right now so film and development costs are not a priority. Sad, really. :(

I put the note book binder pen/pencil case on the back burner for the time being, mainly due to a lack of materials. But I found a small tool case that measures just under 7" x 3-1/2" x 1-1/2". It is very similar in appearance to the larger converted tool case, only smaller. After conversion it now holds 8 pens or pencils (I have some of my favorite pens in it right now). The panels are so small that I used scrap material to cover them. Instead of two 3/4" elastic bands I used only one, and it is 1" wide and in the middle of the case. This way I can more easily put in and take out pens or pencils. My lovely wife thinks it's "cute". I guess it is, in a way.
I enjoy converting various things into pen/pencil cases. But right now I'm outta things to convert. Sad, so sad. :(

I found the cutest little pen/pencil case today at Walmart. It was fabric and zippered. It looked like it could hold about a 1/2 dozen pens/pencils comfortably, maybe more if you pushed it. They had a little silver key charm on the zipper. They sold for about $2.50 and well worth the price (though I didn't buy one). The only thing I couldn't figure out is why they were in the feminine hygiene department, right next to the Tampons!

Mine are all in various pencil cases and in a drawer in my desk. I try to contain them to a specific place, but my collection apears to grow on it's own! The worst part is keeping the pens apart from the pencil. I don't know how to divide up the drawer in a way that looks cool and doesn't waste space....
JonelB - 10 Jun 2009, 09:18 pm
A couple of pencil cases, plus multiple clear 3-drawer sets, and one pencil case that came with my L.L. Bean Bookbag that holds all my extra-fine-point sharpies(One in every color possible.
I need to properly organize all of them eventually, and catalog what I have....

I keep my school pens/pencils in a makeup case, but am saving some money for a little present to myself for when I do better in school. I have some that I keep in a little jar, that I use often but not every day, and then a drawer to keep some pencils that I don't like but want to hang on to.
