What is the most expensive pen you own? What's the cost?

betty - 17 Sep 2005, 10:12 pm
I own tons of pens, but the most expensive pen I own is a sensa pen on sale for a mere $20.00. That's pricey for just one pen, but wait til you see pens selling for $100+! Eek!

Probably my Parker Frontier fountain pen...it was $30 (cheap for a decent fountain pen, though), and what stinks is I don't really use it much anymore. I went through this phase three months back where I fell in love with fountain pens and bought a bunch around $20-$30 each..and now I'm over them and into regular gel pens (like the ones on this site!), so I wasted quite a lot of $$$.

BTW, the most expensive pen I have SEEN was a $10,000 fountain pen. And that was one being bought! Crazy pen collectors. :D

I'm actually in a fountain pen stage that just began this saturday after I received my petit fountain pens from jetpens! I would really like to own one nice real fountain pen now. Can you recommend one? I want a regular sized (not too thick or too heavy or too short) silver barrel and a nice fine point. Does fountain pens only come in one width or do they also have fine, medium, bold? Which one do you recommend? Nothing over $100 please. It will be my first real fountain pen and I'm not quite sure how to take care of it or refill it yet.

Thanks!

The only reason I would use a fountain pen is if I was into European Calligraphy....

Or if I became famous and had to do lotsa autographs... :D

My favorite fountain pen has an extremely fine point, and it's just a thin sleek silver barrel which is perfect and classic. But I got it in Japan for approximately $60 USD, and I don't know what it is. :( The nib is Sailor, but the pen itself might have been limited edition or something because I've tried and cannot find another.

A good fountain pen IMO is the Lamy Safari. It's a good starter fountain pen, and is only around $30, maybe even cheaper if you can find it on Ebay. I've never heard any negative comment about the Lamy, it's a really good solid workhorse. :) Only problem is they come in pretty ugly colored plastic barrels..just plain yellow, red, orange, blue etc. But Lamy came out with the Al-Star, which I think is exactly like the Safari except in nicer (metallic silver, satin blue, chrome green, etc) colors! You can get the pen in widths bold, medium, fine, and I think extra fine.
I don't really love the design, though...

Another cheap but nice pen if you're just going for the design is the Sheaffer Agio. It's about $40. The barrel is slim, sleek, and shiny and it's very nice.

Sheaffer nibs come in broad (1.5mm), medium(1.2mm), fine (0.9mm), and extra fine (0.7mm).

Hope this helps. :)

Oh, wow, do you have a picture of that favorite fountain pen you have. That's the exact description of what I'm looking for, very simple classic, silver, and very fine.

I also like the Sheaffer Agio you pictured except I want someone all silver (no gold). But the extra fine is a 0.7mm point? I would say that is medium.
starjanae - 18 Sep 2005, 11:13 pm
I'll take a picture of it ASAP. :D Might be a problem though, because you might not be able to find it anyway. :(

The Scheaffer Agio is the closest to what you want that I can think of...it looks a bit like my favorite fountain pen, except mine doesn't have any gold. And the Scheaffer company classifies their extra fines as 0.7mm...not thin enough in my opinion. :(

There's another one that I got in Japan that I liked, but this one is a bit more cute than anything else, and it's smaller than what you're looking for. But when you take the cap off and put it on the end of the pen, it is like a regular sized pen. I have the pink one. Maybe you can request it from Jetpens! :P I think the brand is called Tasche Ohto.

Oh wow! I absolutely love the Tasche. How tall is the pen exactly with it's cap on? I would LOVE to purchase one of these if they're not too short with cap on!!!!
starjanae - 19 Sep 2005, 09:27 pm
I've measured the Tasche and it's actually 4 inches...not that short, I even measured the regular Hi-Tec-C to compare and it's approximately 5.5 inches...pretty close. :) And the Tasche looks (and feels) really great. The only problem is that you would have to find somewhere that sells those shorter cartridges. :?
betty - 20 Sep 2005, 10:13 am
Wow, only 4 inches, evith the cap on?...way too short for my liking. Skip....

 I'll let you know if I see any more.

how much are those cross pens? i got one for graduation once and the packaging made it look expensive, but i have no idea how much they run for.

My most expensive? Probably my Pelikan 1931 White Gold LE. I paid $700 for it, and if you wanted to buy one today, they'd be around $1400.

Second place goes to my Nakaya Urushi at $600. It was custom made for me.

I have given away most of what was once a rather extensive collection. I still have my Pelikan Originals LE's (these are reissues of rare 1930's pens) my Montblanc 149 (which I got used) and my precious Nakaya. Everything else are relatively inexpensive stuff like Lamys and Pilots.

I have a couple in the 500-600 dollar range. A Waterman Serenite and a Stipula Da Vinci (not the limited edition). Nice pens, but not suitable for daily writers. They're by far the most expensive pens I own.
Violet 530 - 05 Jan 2006, 06:12 pm
My most expensive pens are a Namiki Falcon fountain pen, which retails for about $150, and a tiny Pelican Souveran 300 series fountain pen that is around $150 if you can find one. The next probably is a beautiful Shaeffer Intrigue fountain pen at $120 then three Namiki Vanishing Points from $90 to $120 each. The Shaeffer is the only one that had disappointing performance. I had to send it away to be fixed/adjusted.

I have a expensive-looking Waterman ballpen that was given to me as a gift...i don't really use it that much, but it still writes perfectly. Such it the difference of quality..
finoq - 08 Jan 2006, 03:08 am
and since i'm only 16, i can't really afford lots of expensive pens...I think my most expensive pen that I can think of are my 2 Pilot Parallel Pens costing S$8.80 each...
Slush99 - 27 Apr 2006, 10:39 am
it was a Taccia Imperial Portuguese that I got for 65 dollars... It didnt work that well either :( But it's a beautiful pen...

I must be crazy to want 300 dollar pens...

[color=blue]The most expensive pen I own would have to be my Sailor Sailor Professional Gear Fountain Pen with a 21k Zoom nib and also a 21k Music nib for the same pen. Its the one I use most too.

I have several others that I use on a regular basis but I always seem to come back to the Sailor. I really like the smoothness of the nibs and the versatility of each nib is really great!

I have started to collect a few vintage fountain pens and found a Mint Shaffer "Seas Collection" pen in a great shade of translucent Blue with a fine 14k nib that I have been using most of the time lately.

But when I'm on the way out the door, its always the Sailor, my small journal and now a Akashiya Bamboo Barrel Brush Pen that I just purchased from JetPens a few days ago into my pack and I'm all set.

I should also mention that the sakura field watercolor set and a filled water brush are in there too. :)

The most expensive pen that I own probably cost $3.00. The most expensive drafting pencil that I own cost $22.50.

Somehow I don't think that any pen or pencil should cost more than $50.00 tops. The technology is the same regardless of price so after about $50.00 all you are paying for is the shell and a name. I have no use for either a too fancy of a shell (come on, are you really going to use a solid gold pen?) or a name I can't pronounce. Sure I want quality but nowadays quality does not have to have a high price tag.

I'm a PenPencilaholic, but I'm not crazy!
Crazytales - 03 Jun 2009, 07:23 pm
The pen I paid most for that I own now is probably my Parker Vector fountain pen at $8 shipped. As for pencils, I bought a Sliding Sleeve Sharp for $10, but then I lost it (man, was I pissed). Now it's my Kuru Toga at around nine bucks shipped.
I'm going to get a Pelikano Junior to claim the title from my Vector though.

I think the post expensive pen I've purchased was around eleven dollars, but I have an expensive looking fountain pen given to me by my grandmother that has a gold tip, so that's probably the most expensive pen I own.
