What is your favorite artwork/novel/poem/etc?

starjanae - 23 Nov 2005, 07:57 pm
What is/are your favorite work/s of art? My favorite artist isn't famous, I found her work on Deviantart (she does pastel work with landscape pieces), but she gave me a lot of inspiration. As for novels, it's too predictable but true-I am a fanatic of Catcher in the Rye and Harry Potter. I hate jumping on the bandwagon but they are really my favorite books. :)

I have no favorite artist...,but I do love Alice Bordchardt, Neil Gaiman books are my favorite authors... they're so descriptive

I guess I currently like manga artists, but I don't have a real preference...I just read Shojo Beat every month...

I have never read manga before...but I do like some Taiwanese dramas that were based off of mangas. :)

That's a tough question to answer, because it's about art, i cant really compare who's better than who for creativity (or just plain coolness). Since im a Final Fantasy fan i love Tetsuya Nomura's character design (although i can say, final fantasy is getting less creative since FFX)

"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins..." anyone recognize this?? Noone can master language like Vladimir Nabokov. Who else can make pedophilism sound so good?

I actually dont like the taiwanese ones based off mangas. like peach firl and meteor garden, its too dramatic for me. (i can say the same for alot of korean drama too) they dont make dramas as good as they used to. Old school japanese ones from the 90s are the best.

Le belle homme
Long vacation
beautiful life
hero

all my favorite japanese dramas.... but nothing beats Condor Heros Trilogy ( or" how ever many"-logy)

I loove Taiwanese dramas, lol. I'm such a drama girl. It's funny that you say that because my favorite one is actually Meteor Garden.

I have lost touch of watching Japanese dramas...

I don't even watch anime much anymore except Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli's newest works!)

Heh. Lolita is the only novel I read by Nabokov. I like his florid prose style. I am now reading a work by Dostoevsky once every year (which, um, will take a while). I read some stuff by Henry Miller and Jack Kerouac. But right now I am obsessed with H.P. Lovecraft. Then I have to read Requiem for a Dream.

Yeah... I spend more money on books than on pens, which seems ridiculous.

I haven't watched a Korean drama in years. I watch the occasional anime. I am watching Bleach right now. And... as for movies, I liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Rushmore, and Spirited Away (the Japanese version).

I have no interest in anime. I like to watch real people.

Favorite artist? none. I don't care about art

Favorite author? I like J.K. Rowling and the early Amy Tam books. I don't read as much as I should neither. I like to watch TV too much :)

I cant say I have one poet or artist that is an all time favorite, but if made to choose, I would have to go with Andrew Wyeth.

Mostly because his work to me is gentle and fluid. His choice of colors in his work is simple yet powerful and conveys to me a great deal of emotion in a simple brushstroke.

As for Poets, I think it would hands down have to be Matsuo Bashō. He was a poet of the Edo period in Japan (1603 to 1868). He is recognized as a master of brief and clear haiku which I also write and am a great fan of.

As far as Art, my tastes are quite eclectic, but I would have to say that Tamara de Lempicka and Mark Ryden are among my Favorites, but I also love a lot of the classics, There is also something about Edward Hopper's work that is haunting and beautiful.

As for literature I love George Orwell and Poe, as well as many classics. On the more contemporary side, I like Mitch Albom's books for their spiritual and life lessons of sorts. I also love to read macabre literature and books on the paranormal, go figure .

I enjoy Tim Burton films, as well as classic B&W movies. I also like movies like Vanilla Sky, The Jacket, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which was mentioned above).
