DIY Pen Tips

What's the best point to use?

starjanae - 23 Aug 2005, 11:23 pm
I was planning on using a Hi-Tec-C to try ink drawings, but after a day of writing with a 0.3mm, it doesn't work very well. I assume I bent the tip or something, since everyone talks about this problem and I don't see any other reason why the pen keeps doing this. I don't have another tip at my convenience right now to use, so it's frustrating. I'm wondering next time I buy one, should I get a different point? Does the ink block up with paper fiber, and does the tip get bent easier if it's very fine? I'm sure the tip replacing technique works, but it's just not convenient for me. I'd rather get a thicker point next time I guess, then have to keep trying to use fine point pens that stall on me.

My favorite point is mostly the 0.5mm...I find the 0.3 too thin for the everyday scribble. It's really nice when you want to write small and neat, but for the quick sloppy scribble, it's too thin.

That's exactly what I was thinking...I have small handwriting, but the 0.3 seems to thin for everyday use.

I use the Signo DX .28 for my daily planner. I bought a bunch the last time I was in Japan and have been addicted ever since.

I agree, the 0.5 mm is the way to go for quick writing. I have been using the 0.4 mm but have been bending the tips slightly. I have been using the Pentel EnerGel 0.5 mm needle point pens and they are nice to use as well.

Eric

You mean bending the 0.4mm tips of the Hi-tec-C? I haven't had that problem happen to me yet since I don't use the Hi-tecs enough, but if it did, I would be mad...Hi-Tec-C pens are quite pricey.

Betty, I think that's what happened with my 0.3mm...it's not working anymore, and I'm pretty sure the ink isn't dried out. So I probably bent the tip...

Yes, I have been bending the 0.4 mm Hi-Tec-C tips and yes they are pricey. I am going to try the Signo DX pens as the tips appear to be stronger.

It's too bad about that, eregrut...the huge Hi-Tec-C color selection is my favorite! I'll try 0.5mm.

Ive used .25 and .3

I would have to say I like the .25 best between them.

I just ordered .5 for work, the .3 is horrible for what I need it for at work, writes too small. great for notes, but not for everything.

Hope these work well. I had been using the Pilot Precise v5, but I like the feel of the Hi-Tec c better, hopefully it turns out to work well

I rather like the 0.38mm - 0.4mm pens for everyday use. I like retractables
so I like the G-2 in 0.38, the SARASA in 0.4mm, the Signo RT Gel in 0.38mm and the Signo 207 Micro (it leaves a 0.38mm line). 8)
