nib thickness question
Blausky - 08 Nov 2009, 01:24 pm
I am a bit confused on how small/big the nibs are on Lamy fountain pens, does anyone know like how big or how thick or thin they are? (like is medium thickness close to .5 in lead size?) or a comparison pic of all 3 sizes available (extra fine, fine, medium) It would be really helpful to know.

in my experience, medium nibs are always very smooth of whatever brand. keep in mind that a fine nib has less touching the paper and an extra fine has less than a fine (and may be a bit on the scratchy side)

Ah I was afraid of that. I am not fond of scratchy pens so I'm getting a fine pen and some medium nibs. Thank you for your info.

It really depends on the quality of the nib itself. I've used extra fine nibs with amazing flex and no scratching, and I've used medium nibs that felt like I was running my nails on a chalk board.
I personally adore flexible nibs, no matter the thickness. They give a flair to your writing, although you do need a lighter hand with them. Keep in mind that nibs wear according to the pressure you use and your personal writing angle. A pen that starts out "scratchy" may become a favorite once you've made the nib "yours" by writing with it for a while.
My two cents,

I bought a Lamy Vista in EF. I was a bit disappointed because it was not near as fine as a Pilot Penmanship.
