officemax and office depot trips today

Crazytales - 11 Jun 2009, 10:50 pm
I cut school after my sixth hour exam because I didn't have one in seventh hour.
so here's what I got at office depot and officemax:
Yafa fountain pen and 3-pack Jetstream RT at OfficeDepot
Zebra eco pencils at OMX

ugh, i have no life. anyone normal would have ditched for the mall, or even the farmer's market, maybe even the library.

eta: the Yafa FP review is posted on my blog, and i'll be reviewing the jetstreams and pencils soon as well

How thick are the Jetstreams you bought?
JonelB - 12 Jun 2009, 01:31 am
The last thing I did, the Friday I left college, in Tuscaloosa, was visit OfficeMax.
and every time I get groceries I go to Office Depot. Just to check their sale stuff(Red Tag sale going on there don'tcha know?).
I forgot to go to Target though...it's not my fault that it's kinda out of the way. I keep meaning to check the Tuscaloosa one for a Pilot Plumix...I really want one. Or a Pilot Penmanship. Either one will make me happy as a clam.

Once you're in college people look at you funny when you have a list of pens you want instead of alchoholic drinks you want to try.
Crazytales - 12 Jun 2009, 09:51 am
Yeah, I should have gone to Target as well, it was right on my way too. I really do want a Plumix or Penmanship, but my sister might give me one for my upcoming birthday Tuesday.
Sucks you're in college and have a pen list instead of a drink list... wow! I guess there's still hope for me (unlike you) :P

Passion, they're 0,7mm.
Passion - 12 Jun 2009, 09:53 am
Thanks, I have a question about them; Does the tip feel at all scratchy on the paper? Not the ink flow, but the tip itself.
Crazytales - 12 Jun 2009, 11:28 am
Nope, it's really smooth.

That is what happens when you are a pens addict, you run straight for the fix and how do i know this? Been there done that!
sh00k - 12 Jun 2009, 03:01 pm
LOL. don't feel so bad... the area where i live and work here in manhattan has staples all over the place. sometimes i go in there trying to force myself to buy something... LOLOL.... i dont know what it is... i think it's the obsessive/addictive feeling of having something *new* to open.

at least our addictions are "affordable" and i put that in quotes because everyone's affliction varies in intensity.

I think the Jetstream 0.7's are where it's at. The 1.0's would probably feel like "writing with a sawed-off log" (quoting dowdyism), and the 0.5's would probably feel scratchy. I don't have any personal experience yet with the 0.5's and 1.0's though. Maybe I'll add them to my forth coming jetpens order.
Passion - 12 Jun 2009, 08:11 pm
I have the .5 and although the ink flows ouit freely, the tip feels slightly scratchy. Maybe I should try the .7.......
sh00k - 13 Jun 2009, 01:36 pm
^ i have all 3. the .5 is a little bit scratchy - i have written with scratchier pens. i dont think this would be a good pen for a lot of in class note taking b/c the scratchyness hinders speed.

the .7 is fluid and there is almost no resistance onto the paper. it's great.

the 1.0mm.... well....... as many others have stated, it's 'buttery' smooth.... you put the pen tip onto the paper and it literally feels uncrontrollable - like it wants to go in any direction when you apply a *little* effort to.... it's insanely buttery - quote me on that. LOL.

for taking a lot of notes really quickly, i use the .7 jetstream. the 1.0 is awesome too but i think the lines of the 1.0mm tip are too thick (for me, anyway).... the 1.0 would be great for writing a letter or something like that.

when writing, the lines coming out of the 1.0mm tip literally feels like you are engraving canals into the paper... like it's so thick, rich in color, it really really stands out on paper... i dont know if im describing the feeling right but that's what it feels like to me. ;-D
Passion - 13 Jun 2009, 08:42 pm
I strongly dislike thick pens, so I'll go for the .7 just to see how much smoother it is. Thanks for the info.

No problem.
jessiew - 24 Jun 2009, 12:35 am
haha this makes me laugh... i know exactly what you're talking about when you'd rather be at a stationery shop, staples, or an office depot purchasing new supplies rather than bar hopping.

oh, JonelB... not sure if you got your Pilot Plumix as of yet... stop by your local Target. i got mine today for a whopping $5.99 :)

I checked. Tuscaloosa doesn't have them. Neither does the one in Birmingham, or the one in Fultondale, AL.
I blame Alabama...
They don't have the Rhodia or any other stuff like that, either. I did find a Red and Black there, that they were selling off a while back.
jessiew - 24 Jun 2009, 03:37 pm
let me know if you'd like me to get it for you, ship it, and then you can just send me the cash for it. its really no problem since my target is well stocked and only a mile from my house!

i think when i looked they only had the blue barrel left.

oh, and i did notice that they sold like 3 different rhodia pads, competitive pricing, but still nice that they did. target is my favorite store for some reason, not necessarily for pens and stationery, but for everything else it is wonderful. i like how they're starting to carry a variety of brands that us obscure people would look for. if only they would catch up in alabama!

I'm going to check one more time at the Tuscaloosa one next time I visit, and possibly the Montgomery one(well, there's two near there) , but if I don't find it there, I might have to call you in on that. I'd kinda prefer the black or purple one, so I'll check there first.
I HATE LIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.
Neocaledonian - 03 Jul 2009, 09:44 pm
Checking Office Depot stores is well worth it these days especially with their Red Tag Sales. Just a few days ago I managed to score a 0.25 mm Rapidograph pen for just 50 cents and some Staedtler technical pen refills for 34 cents a piece.

Nice finds. I should go to Staples. Scratch that. I WANT to go to Staples but I SHOULD wait till August when their back to school sale really starts up.
JonelB - 03 Jul 2009, 10:02 pm
I second staples. I've gotten plenty of stuff from their red tag sales. You never know what you'll get or find. I got my Staedler Pigment Liner Sketch Pens and my Lumocolors from there.

I think that Target is the only place to find the Pilot Plumix, but I'm not sure. I did buy all 3 of mine there. And as far as I can tell JetPens is the only place you can get the Pilot Penmanship. I got all three of mine there.

The Plumix has a nice blunt calligraphy type tip which allows itself to be pushed, something a calligraphy nib just won't do with out chattering. The Penmanship has an EF nib which is very nice! About the only thing interchangeable between the 2 pens is the end caps and the nibs and baffles. The center sections have the same threads at the cap end but not at the tail end so the bodies will not interchange. But the nibs and baffles will interchange so if you wanted a blue penmanship you'd have to exchange the Plumix nib for a Penmanship nib. Just thought I'd share that little tid bit. 8)
JonelB - 05 Jul 2009, 12:35 am
Yes, I knew that. :P
I was generally expressing my want for that type of pen.
and I actually got the Penmanship in my last jetpens order! It writes wonderfully. I can't wait to use up the ink in it and replace it with noodler's bulletproof black, to use for notes and the like.
but I'll be checking target for a plumix still, just on the offchance there is one there....I'd like the purple or black versions of it. Blue is just not my color.

Oh! Sorry!

I really like both pens. I was introduced to the Plumix first and was so impressed that I bought the other 2 colors! Currently the Blue one is running Noodler's Navajo Turquoise, the Purple one is running Noodler's Purple and the Black one is running Noodler's Black (Bulletproof). I have a Black Penmanship and 2 clear ones, all filled with Noodler's, Black, Navajo Turquoise and Purple.

I like the way the blunt nib produces calligraphy-like lettering! I used to do calligraphy but haven't in years. I can't even find my pens! And I'm very fond of EF nibs so I really like the Penmanships. I'd buy converters for them but thats a lot of money when I can just refill an empty cartridge. 8)

BTW if you have trouble getting the Plumix let me know. Our local Target seems to have them in stock most of the time.
JonelB - 05 Jul 2009, 12:15 pm
Thanks for the offer, if I check the Tuscaloosa one and they don't have them, I'll have to take you up on it. I'm pretty sure once these pens are gone, they'll be gone.
I personally want another pilot penmanship. It writes SO WELL, but I am a little worried that two is a bit excessive, especially since I only venture into about 4 different colors in the ink spectrum(Black, red, green, and purple-sometimes orange). And Black is the most common color in my pens.
So meh. I do like the black penmanship I got. It might end up being my pocket pen for when I need to jot down a quick note.
onelonegunman - 07 Jul 2009, 12:49 am
If you need me to get you a Plumix, just let me know! 8)
onelonegunman - 07 Jul 2009, 07:49 am
Check it out! No need to go to Target!!! JetPens now carries the Pilot Plumix! :D
JonelB - 07 Jul 2009, 11:28 pm
I saw!
But the "Pack of 6" made me a bit uncertain, so I just bought them at Target today when I saw them. Along with the red "noted" notebooks.
$5.99 Not bad at all.
I also went by Office Depot and got 5"x8" and 4x6" gridded index cards, and some stickable/stackable post-it index cards....for 50 cents per pack. not that I need more stickable/stackable post-it index cards.....but they were ON SALE.
as I always say:
"You never know what you need until it's less than a dollar!"
sh00k - 08 Jul 2009, 08:01 am
^ that's awesome that you are able to find so many deals! if things were less than a dollar, my apartment would be full of stationary! LOL.

I'd open up a store to rival staples... i'll call it.... Paperclips!
JonelB - 08 Jul 2009, 12:08 pm
Lol. I already have so much stationery. Usually when my friends need something like index cards or notebooks at the beginning of the semester, they ask me.(I actually bought a TON of cheap spiral-bound notebooks, for less than 10 cents each, but unfortunately the paper is the worst I've ever used. So I usually use them as scratch paper or I give them away when someone wants a notebook).
Just the other day my mom asked if I had a small notebook for her to take notes in at the meeting, and I tossed her a pocket cahier to use.
lol. You guys can see some measure of my collection and my bargain-hunting abilities in my flickr photostream. I LIVE for bargains. I don't know how normal people pay full price.
And then recently....I've gotten into....coupons. Mostly to help my family out, partially to start saving money on groceries. Just a little so I can do bargain hunting, but with food!

I'll also have to take a bunch of pictures(eventually) of all my pens and random stuff I've gotten either on sale or on clearance.
Also yesterday at Sam's club I got a 12-pack of mead cambridge spiral-bound reporter's notebooks. My roommate for this year of college uses them and abuses them, so I figured I'd get her some that were a step up from the 76 cent ones at the grocery store. Plus these are a better deal, at about 40 cents each.
It's important to think about these things, I think.
