vintage pencil would not take lead

lovemy51 - 17 Mar 2009, 01:44 am
hi gals and guys.

i bought a small (4") vintage no name pencil off ebay ( http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/9/0/2/4/2/webimg/108852961_tp.jpg ) that came with the lead stuck inside. i was able to clear the jam, but now the 1.1 lead i thought would fit in this pen just slides out when i put the pencil down to write.

comparing it with a similar pen (brand: viceroy) i also bought at ebay, i can see or feel the pen in question doesn't have what it appears to be a clutch to hold the lead and would make it, not only slide out, but also pull it back in when turn the cone back (counter clock).

does it take a thicker lead stick (i don't know anything thicker for regular mechanical pencils)?

the seller was nice enough to refund me the money and told me to keep it. but, i'm still looking to get it fixed. anyone out there with knowledge on these vintage babies.

any help appreciated!!

regards,

I am not familiar with just how the pencil grips lead in a twist pencil, but the bit or chuck may be bent, or worse, broken. Twist the pencil all the way out and see if you can see anything that looks bent or broken. You may need a small flashlight to see down into the barrel opening if nothing extends outside the opening. Lets us know what you find.

thanx for posting, OLG.

the rod inside is in good order and comes out all the way to the tip. i took the cone off the barrel and the mechanism works fine.

there's gotta be something i'm missing!!!

i've tinkered with some of these before, but never had this problem.

Yea, it may look fine, but it's not grasping the lead! I wish that you had a pic or two of the mechanism to show me, especially where the lead is supposed to attach to the screw. I still think that something is either broken or a part is missing. Hmmmmmmm!... :?
