Pilot Plumix Fountain Pen - Medium Flat Italic Nib - Black Body - PILOT 90040
  I've bought several of..., May 12, 2014
I've bought several of these Pilot Plumix pens in order to transfer their nibs into Pilot Preras. I prefer to write with a medium italic nib and the combination of the Prera and this nib is a joy to write with. For some reason, I have kept this black Plumix as is. I put in a CON-50 converter into the pen and filled it with Iroshizuku Take-Sumi black and the pen and ink married into a comfortable writing instrument. It always starts, writes smoothly and never skips. Sometimes the nibs on the Plumix do need a little tuning, but this one was perfect out of the box.

Surprising, the Plumix is not a bad little pen to write with. It is light-weight, has a large ink window, and I like the smoky transparency of its squid-like body. It does not have a clip, so you'll want to use this as a desk pen only, however the cap does prevent the pen from rolling on your tabletop.

If you are looking for a starter pen to experience what an italic nib is all about, this is a good first choice.
Platinum Plaisir Fountain Pen - Fine 03 Nib - Gunmetal - PLATINUM PGB-1000B 98-2
I'd had my eye on the..., May 7, 2014
I'd had my eye on the Platinum Plaiser FP for quite some time and recently was gifted the pen by my husband. The cap system that prevents dry-outs had intrigued me. I like to keep a fountain pen in my writing kit paired with a Coleto 4 for notes, but my previous fountain pens would dry up between seminars and leave me without black ink when I needed it the most. I got tired of having to remember to double check my fountain pen before I left for events. I also did not want an expensive fountain pen for my kit in case it got lost while I'm on the go.

I've owned the Plaisir for a few weeks. It starts immediately and always gives a smooth, clear line. The fine nib (.3), glides across the paper in an effortless manner that I expect from a more expensive fountain pen. It wrote well right from the package. No tuning was needed. I am currently using Stipula Black ink and the pen and ink seem to be happy with one another. The converter holds a decent amount of ink, so I do not worry about running out in the middle of note taking.

The Plaisir is the same height and width as my Coleto 4, which creates balance in my pen case. The Gunmetal Grey with silver accents is professional looking and I've received many compliments on the look of my pen. I call the two pens my "Dynamic Duo".

All in all, I have been very pleased with this fountain pen. I own more expensive pens, but for the purpose I now use the Plaisir for, it is a perfect fit for my needs.
Pilot Prera Clear Body Fountain Pen - Calligraphy Medium Nib - Clear Blue Accent - PILOT FPRN350R-TLCM
The Pilot Prera Blue..., December 27, 2013
The Pilot Prera Blue fountain pen is a smooth writer right out of the box, no pen tuning was necessary beyond my usual cleaning of a new pen before putting in ink. I have the medium calligraphy nib and find it is a little more narrow than a western medium, but most Japanese nibs are like this and I had expected it. It writes a smooth line with just a touch of line variation. The converter goes into place smoothly and feels secure. It draws up ink to full capacity the first try. There is a little bead inside the converter that can rattle a little, but I believe it is there to help move the ink and it seems to do the job well. My pen started great from the first time I wrote with it. Everything comes apart for easy cleaning too. I love the colorful end caps combined with the transparent body and that the nib is hidden under an opaque cap. You see the ink, but the pops of color lend it a sense of style. I may have to get another of these light-weight writers in a different cap color.
Waterman Nostalgia Fountain Pen Ink - 50 ml Bottle - Intense Black - SANFORD 51060W1

I was given a bottle of the Waterman Nostalgia Black ink as a gift and I find it a great everyday ink for my fountain pens. I always keep one of my medium nib pens loaded with this ink and use it for note taking, journal entries and other every day writing tasks. It is not the blackest ink that I own, but because it behaves so well in the pen, I find that I can use it more widely than my other preferred black ink, the Pelikan Brilliant Black. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, well behaved, black ink, this one would be a good choice.
Pelikan 4001 Fountain Pen Ink Collection - 30 ml Bottle - Turquoise Blue - PELIKAN 311894

I first tried this ink in a cart as a sort of throw away, popping in a small box of the color to give it a try. I simply fell in love with it and now keep a bottle on hand for everyday writing. The blue is a bright color, like the Caribbean sea on a hot sunny day. It behaves well in my calligraphy pen, drying quickly and leaving a clean line. There is a little shading in this color, but that simply enhances it look on the page. Don't let the low price of this ink fool you, it is worth a second look.
Pelikan 4001 Fountain Pen Ink Collection - 62.5 ml Bottle - Brilliant Black - PELIKAN 329144
Pelikan Brilliant Black..., December 2, 2013
Pelikan Brilliant Black was the first black inks I used in my fountain pens. It flows well in the pen, leaves a clean line and works well on cheap paper. It is one of the few inks that I can pair with a fine nib fountain pen and write in a moleskine notebook successfully. I find that it is a little thicker than other black inks and a few of my pens don't write as well with it, but overall it works satisfactorily. I like that it is a true black, no grey shading in my writing.

I like other black inks too, but due to the inexpensive price point of this ink, keeping a bottle of Brilliant Black on hand for times when I want to write in cheap notebooks or a moleskine planner makes sense for me.

Pelikan 4001 Fountain Pen Ink Collection - 30 ml Bottle - Brilliant Red - PELIKAN 301036

This is one of the first red inks that I tried in my fountain pens. It flows smoothly and gives a clean, clear line. However, I find that the red is very transparent, almost like a highlighter, and the color is too brightly garish for me. I filled a pen twice to try it out and then moved on. It is not a "bad" ink, but I feel that there are better options for red in other brands. Overall, I like the Pelikan 4001 ink brand. I do recommend the turquoise and black ink, but the red was simply not up to snuff.
Retro 51 Tornado Vintage Metalsmith Roller Ball Pen - 0.7 mm - Monroe - RETRO 51 VRR-1333

I'd had my eye on this pen for a good couple of months and finally decided to purchase it. I have crimson accents in my office and I wanted a pen that would go with this color theme, but I also needed a solid performer to write notes with. The Retro 51 Monroe is more impressive than I had imagined. The balance and weight of the pen in my hand is comfortable. The rollerball writes smoothly and the black ink is very dark and appealing. The construction of the pen is flawless. It is well milled and the knurled twist cap is smooth. I love the deep crimson color and the diamond texture not only gives you a good grip on the pen, but it creates facets that sparkle in the light. It is now my go to pen on my desk. I simply love it.
Saki P-661 Roll Pen Case with Traditional Japanese Fabric - Dark Red - SAKI 661152
  This is a lovely pen/pencil..., November 28, 2012
This is a lovely pen/pencil wrap. I especially liked the sturdy black cord that goes around it. It is thicker than I expected it to be. The fabric is a soft red with a crisp pattern. Very pretty and it looks great on my desk or in my purse. The only drawback is that my pen clips will not fit on the fabric. Hence, why it loses a star in the review. Overall, I like this purchase and do recommend this pen wrap. I currently have my fountain pen collection in the wrap.
Fisher Space Pen Bullet Model Ballpoint Pen - Translucent Finish - Medium Point Black Ink - Purple Passion Body - FISHER SPACE PEN 400PP
Purple Passion is my..., November 28, 2012
Purple Passion is my favorite color of space pen. I have a purple theme going in my purse and this matched that theme perfectly. The body color is soft and feminine. I've owned this Fisher Bullet Space Pen for over a year and it keeps on going strong. The metallic purple color has not worn off and there is not a mark on the pen's surface even though it travels in my purse along with my daily dairy every day. It writes well without skipping and I find the fisher ink to be superior to most ball point inks. I highly recommend fisher space pens for your everyday carry. They are well made, sturdy pens that close up to an incredibly small size.
