The matte black finish on this pen is what really attracted it to me. The ink
writes a little wet, making the 0.5mm lines seem much thicker than they should
be. Also, as stated in many other reviews before mine, the cap does post to the
end of the pen. The problem that I have is because of this unique method, it
causes the pen to become very long in hand. Tthe extra length doesn't make it
too top heavy, but you can feel it. It's a great pen, but I prefer the Pilot
Hi-Tec-C Cavalier Executive gel pen just a bit more.
Absolutely fantastic pen. For such a small and thin pen, it has a good weight
to it and feels very comfortable in hand. To top it all off, it uses the same
size refill as most other pens on the market (Pilot G2, Uni-ball Signo, Pentel
EnerGel, Zebra Sarasa), so if you ever run out of ink, you're sure to find a
refill that suits your needs. This pen is so great, it just might become the
one pen I carry at all times!
While the 0.38mm tip writes fine lines, I am rather disappointed in the ink
reservoir. If you pay close attention, the inner diameter on the refill is
much smaller than most normal refillable pens which explains why these pens have
such a short lifespan. The inner diameter on this refill is 2mm (approximately
3/32”) whereas other pens, like the Zebra Sarasa or the Uni-ball Signo 0.5mm,
have a much wider inner diameter. These pens have a 5mm (approximately 5/32”)
inner diameter, resulting in 2.5 times more ink than the Signo 0.38mm RT.
It’s a great price, especially for those who love super fine tips. Me?
I’ll take the extra ink with a 0.5mm tip.
Looking abroad, the Jetstream line is by far one of the best writing pens I have
ever owned. As mentioned before, people always compliment on how great the pen
writes. However, the retractable versions are not designed to be kept in your
pocket. After a while, lint will accumulate in the tip and the pen will not
write as dark as it should. It's because of this reason that I switched out all
of my Jetstream retractables to the capped versions. Other than this minor
setback, Jetstream will be the only pen I always carry with me... or at least
until something better comes along.
While the price is questionable, this 0.38mm ink is truly a pleasure to write
with. Unlike some ultra fine ball points, the G2 0.38mm ink writes smoothly and
does not feel like it's scratching the paper. The lines, however, are the same
thickness as a 0.5mm ball point pen because the gel ink bleeds into the paper,
albeit very slightly.
As far as price is concerned... well, let's just say I was able to pick up a
pack of 2 0.38mm pens at a local Wal-Mart for about $2.60 pre-tax. Your mileage
