I found this water brush...

I found this water brush harder to fill and use than other water brushes. Squeezing it under water to fill took a long time compared to just putting the Pentel Aquash under the tap and letting it fill up. Taking out the little black plug to widen the opening for easier filling looked so difficult that I didn't even try it, and really, I wouldn't want to have to do that every time. Also, the water control with this brush seemed spotty: I don't know if it's prone to bubbles, or water flows through it slowly or what, but it seemed to often need me to shake/blot/squeeze repeatedly to get water to flow to the tip, where the Aquash brushes seem better about giving you the amount of water you want for your squeeze. Overall, because of the filling and water control issues, I'll stick with the Aquash-style brushes.

Very dark, very smooth, very waterproof ink. The tips were harder than I expected, the first time I used it. Perhaps they loosen up with use, but it does not feel like a "brush" so much as a slightly flexible felt tip pen. I found that I had to press really hard to get variation in line size.

Good paper for the price, and one of the few papers offered in this size. The "block' format (glued on two edges) means it won't warp even with a lot of water on it, eliminating the need to stretch or tape it down. When I need a new sheet, I just open one of the glued edges with a knife or my fingernail, and many times the old painting will stay in the pad via the remaining edge, resulting in a kind of "notepad" of the old work I can flip through. This also allows you to use both sides of the paper if you want: adding a lot of water to the second side will warp the paper if you don't tape/stretch it, but you CAN use both sides if you just want to experiment or sketch. The paper does tend to "pill" if you overwork it, so it's not great for rewetting and scrubbing, but hey, it's cheap! Great for sketching out ideas and for when you're first learning.

What can I say, this is pretty good paper for the price. The paper does tend to "pill" if you overwork it, so it's not great for rewetting and scrubbing, but hey, it's cheap! Great for sketching out ideas and for when you're first learning. Pair this with the Velos wide tin, a little watercolor set, and a water brush, and you've got a really awesome tiny watercolor kit. I keep mine at work and paint at lunch.

Great, vivid color. FYI, this color does not travel much when touched to wet paper. Doesn't separate, though, staying true to color as it diffuses.

Great, vivid color. FYI, this color doesn't travel much when touched to wet paper, so it won't do that abstract self-diffusing thing that some colors will.

Wonderful, vivid colors. The only thing to be aware of (and the reason for the lost star) is that the blue and purple in this set "travel" and separate like CRAZY when introduced to any amount of water. Using water sparingly or rebrushing to mix is always an option, but I've also grown fond of just "letting it go" and incorporating the separation into the work. It looks really striking on flowers.

Great case for pencils, pens, and brush pens. The metal is slightly thicker than the food-packaging type of tin, and the hinging and clasp are well-made, so they stay securely closed. Very happy with this, especially for the price.

Wonderful little case for a tiny portable watercoloring kit! I can fit a water brush or two, one of the little 3x3 Kuretake watercolor boxsets, a few brush pens, AND a 4x6 watercolor paper block in this puppy. The metal is slightly thicker than the food-packaging type of tin, and the hinging and clasp are well-made, so they stay closed when they should. Very happy with this, especially for the price.

The fine nib on this is FINE. Very nice pen for the money. The nib is a bit scratchy, though that seems to be individual variation...some are scratchier than others.
