For a couple of days of usage, I'd give it pretty high marks. First, I don't think the pictures on the website do it enough justice. I ordered the green tea version which looks and feels awesome. The thickness is barely more than a usual pen, while its multi functional design is well hidden. Initially I thought that replacing pencil leads would be impossible unless you buy a new insert. With instructions in Japanese and only a few pictures I finally figured it out. Writing with both ballpoint choices feels smooth. The mechanism for switching colors is interesting and intuitive. Pencil also works well although a bit different from a conventional drafting pencil. I really like the overall package and recommend it to anyone with a need for a high quality multi-functional pen.

For all you cheap #2 pencil pushers - please don't waste your time and go elswhere before dropping down your too hard earned $$$ on this fine writing instrument. Poor reviews come from those dissapointed geniuses whose expectations are never met in life.

Now that I said it, this is my 2nd #800. Worth every penny. Flawlessly executed, extremely comfortable, perfectly balanced - almost natural - extension of your hand. Give it a try and you will fall in love with it.

I recently received this highly anticipated pencil. I spent enough time evaluating it to conclude that not everyone will be able to notice or appreciate its built/quality. For starters, it looks rather simple. This is not some fancy multi-dimensional writing gear. And it doesn't have to be. Rotring formula for success isn't based on marketing hype. Once you start using it, it will become a natural extension of you. Its perfect balance and solid grip offer extended use without feeling tired. Its recessed design not only prevents the puncturing your shirt's pockets but also a possibility of bending the tip. I only wish they made the 0.35mm version!

This one has more of a neon green shade. It is light on paper so certain lines need to be traced over twice. It stands out in the context of a dull page. I like it.

Another solid performer in the Staedtler line of drafting pencils. I purchased this item to use daily as my main writing instrument. So far it met my expectations for comfort, reliability, and performance. Simply does what's built for. Highly recommended.

This is a work-horse of drafting pencils. I use it primarily with color lead (blue, red, and green). It is made of solid materials and it gives a feeling of assurance when handled. Good compliment to the 0.3/0.5mm set. Highly recommended.

This pencil is just lovely. The fine wood finish is as unique as it gets. It is light compared to most other drafting pencils but nicely balanced/weighted. Besides the eye catching exterior deep red wood and silver matte aluminum parts, it seems solid to last a long time. Good addition for collectors.

For anyone considering an investment in a fine writing instrument, this drafting pencil must be given a serious thought. It is made of quality materials that should last a lifetime. It is also properly balanced toward the tip which makes extended use a lot more comfortable. Highly recommended.
