Pentel Stein Enhanced Silica Pencil Lead - 0.5 mm - HB - PENTEL C275-HB
  I purchased Pilot Neox..., February 4, 2013
I purchased Pilot Neox High-Purity Graphite Pencil Lead - 0.5 mm - HB, Uni-ball NanoDia Low-Wear Pencil Lead - 0.5 mm - HB, and Pentel Stein Enhanced Silica Pencil Lead - 0.5 mm - HB in one order, after looking at reviews for all the 0.5mm lead available on JetPens, trying to find the one that erased the best and was longest lasting. I compared all three in a Rotring 800, on Rhodia 80g paper(A very smooth paper), without twisting the pencil(So they were all worn to the same point when I wrote with them). This was my least favorite of the bunch, being significantly harder to erase(Harder compared to the perfect Pilot and near perfect Uni-ball. It still erases well!). It leaves a slightly lighter line than the Pilot, on par with the Uni-ball. This was the longest lasting of the bunch, with the Pilot lasting half as long, and the Uni-ball lasting about 3/4 as long. It's very hard to break, I was able to write easily with about 7mm outside of the pencil at once(Uni-ball was about 7mm, Pilot got a full 10mm). All in all, all three were good leads that I would recommend to anyone. If you prefer long lasting, get this. If you prefer easy to erase, get the Pilot. If you want the best of both worlds, get the Uni-ball.

This was my second favorite of the bunch, although all three are very good leads, that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. This left a slightly lighter line than the Pilot, about the same as the Pentel, and lasted probably 1/3 longer than the Pilot, but 3/4 as long as the Pentel. It erases nearly perfectly, leaving almost no trace behind, erasing almost as cleanly as the Pilot, but far better than the Pentel. Very hard to accidentally break, being able to easily write with about 7mm of lead outside the pencil, if I was careful, doing about the same as the Pentel did in breakage testing.

I compared all three in a Rotring 800, on Rhodia 80g paper(A very smooth paper), without twisting the pencil(So they were all worn to the same point when I wrote with them). This was my favorite of the bunch, being the easiest to erase by far, and erasing 100% completely from the page. The downside being, it did only last about 2/3 as long as the Uni-ball lead, and half as long as the Pentel lead. This left the darkest line of the three, with the other two being fairly equal. This was also the least likely to break of the three, being able to easily write with 10mm of lead outside of the pencil, if I was careful, although all three hold up MUCH better than the crap you usually find in stores(Pentel Hi-Polymer Super around here). Also, description is wrong, 0.5mm comes with 40 pieces, not 36.
