This pencil is literally the only one I use about 90% of the time. I hated
mechanical pencils and never used them, then I bought an 0.5mm Kuru Toga from my
local big-box office supplies store and loved it. I figured I'd upgrade to a
nicer body and it is oh so GOOD. If I could give this a 6/5, I would. It has
changed my writing style and habits with its amazingness. The lead (I'm using
HB) doesn't break unless I take it out and manhandle it, and I press pretty hard
when writing. Zero issues with this pencil over the course of probably 4-6
months. Also, I don't write in cursive per se, but I connect a lot of my letters
and write some letters loopier ("g", "j", "y") and the mechanism totally works
for me. I can tell.
As an aside, this pencil influenced me to go from a woodcase pencil devotee to a
proud Kuru Toga and Rotring 500 owner - and I like the Kuru Toga better,
although the 500 is solid and beautiful. Give it a shot!
I haven't had the previous reviewer's issues with the cartridges becoming
unseated, but I find that the tabs don't click into place as easily as I would
like. I also own a Zebra Prefill 3-color body and those tabs are better, but I
like the Style Fit ink better. It's a very minor annoyance - just push the tab
in a little, then push down until it clicks. The body itself is on the thinner
side for a 3-color pen in my opinion - truthfully, it's thinner than my Prefill
or my Alpha Gel Kuru Toga 0.5mm pencil. It isn't uncomfortable, though.
4/5 for slightly picky tabs but an otherwise great experience.
I have to say ... this color and the blue black were about 2/3 of the reason I
bought a Style Fit body. The line is smooth, thin, and lovely. I haven't had any
of the problems of the previous reviewer, although I don't have a Coleto to
compare (and, frankly, I'm very satisfied with my Style Fit and Zebra Prefill).
The color looks pretty much exactly like the Signo UM-151 brown black (of which
there is a writing sample on JetPens).
Love this color, though! Slightly warmer than black or even blue black (which I
think it looks nice sitting next to in my 3-color barrel).
This is kind of an unobtrusively good pen. I turn to it for the smooth
performance, reliability, and great color. It's not exciting, but I use it again
and again and am always satisfied. Color is accurate here, and the clip is
pretty great too.
I have to admit ... I have never gotten to the end of a refill. I love the body,
and the refills - when they work - are smooth, gel pen-esque, dark black, and
quite lovely. Then, they ALWAYS dry out within a month or so. I have gone
through 3-4 refills and this always, always happens. It's very frustrating and a
huge waste in my opinion. I've given up on this pen, to be honest.
I do like this pen body, but there are a few things that I wish I knew before
buying it. First of all, the top knock (for advancing pencil lead, if you use a
mechanical pencil component) is obviously useless if you don't use a mechanical
pencil component (I don't, and it took me a surprisingly long time to figure out
the "problem" with the knock.). Secondly, this may be obvious from the refills,
but you have to look at the refill itself (through the clear part of the body)
to determine what color you have selected. The tabs are not colored like the
Anyway, that said, I really like the pen body. Nice and light, not too wide for
me (pictures are accurate in this regard). I thought that it rattled a little
when I wrote, but I tested it recently and all was well. Very nice.
A++ case. I wanted to add that the size of this case is such that you are able
to easily store objects other than writing instruments - for example, I have no
problem fitting in a mini sharpener (with receptacle for pencil shavings) and a
small ruler, which are items that I had previously had difficulty fitting in
cases. The material feels really strong and good quality.
In the main (largest) pocket, I have the aforementioned sharpener and ruler, 2
basic white erasers, a white-out pen, one ballpoint pen, two wooden pencils, two
thin marker-type pens, and a highlighter. I believe this case could easily fit
at least double that. Overall, I love it and am seriously considering buying
I've been finding that, with my first JetPens order, the colors of the inks in
real life are more saturated than those on my screen. Not so with this
highlighter - the color is pretty much an exact match. I like the tips on this
one in particular - for some reason, they feel satisfyingly firm and almost
"juicy". The 0.6mm tip is really quite thin and is easy to write with. All in
all, would reorder.
I really like this pen. I bought it mainly for the ink color, as espoused in the
reviews. I do like that, and I find it mostly similar to the Uni-ball Vision
Elite Rollerball in purple (which I also purchased). The writing is smooth and
the ink does not bleed through in my experience. Drying times are pretty minimal
too. I may actually prefer this to the rollerball because of that.
I may be picking nits, but I was a teensy bit disappointed in this. The color
appears a little more saturated than the photo would tell you, but I like that.
What I'm disappointed in is the erasing ability. I've tried the US FriXion gel
pens and found those to write and erase beautifully, but this must be a heavier
ink or something because it, in my opinion, requires more force to erase, seems
to "chafe" the paper a little, and does not always erase 100% (90%, maybe). One
thing I noted is that the eraser is on the cap, which is obviously better for
posting. However, I doubt I will reorder this specific product.
