Pilot Metropolitan Fountain Pen - Medium Nib - Black Plain Body - PILOT 91107

This is only my 2nd type of fountain pen but wow I am impressed. This is a wonderful pen even under heavy usage. I have been using Noodler's Blue Eel and Gruene Cactus Eel in both of my Metropolitans. So far I have written 46 pages of notes in the last 4 days with two of these pens (one green ink, one blue ink). I did have to dip the nibs in water once to clear them, that was probably because of the special lubricated Eel ink I guess? Otherwise they have been amazingly smooth and consistent compared to the Platinum Preppy pens I was using before. What's more amazing is that this pen did it on extremely cheap $1/notebook paper. The squeeze converter holds plenty of ink (even for me) and it works perfectly too. This pen sells for much more in Japan and Europe and I can see why. My only complaints are that the clip is too stiff and the cap doesn't easily post so it tends to fall off if you don't push it on there firmly. If those two things aren't a problem for you then this is definitely a pen you want to get.

I am using this in my Pentel Twist-Erase III and it works pretty well. I haven't had any lead breakage and the color is dark enough to write with but not as dark as some people would probably prefer. The eraser on my pencil can erase AIN 2B lead like it was never there but it does leave some marks with this lead although it's not bad if you don't write too hard on the paper.

Works ok in my Pentel Twist-Erase III, no lead breakage problems. In my opinion the red color isn't dark enough to use it for writing but it is good for underlining or drawing. Most of this red lead is erasable with the eraser on my pencil but it's not a perfect erase like it is with AIN 2B graphite lead.

I loaded mine up with some dark Pentel 2B .5mm lead and it writes amazingly, no lead breakage at all. The real incredible thing is that this pencil can take blue and red .5mm colored uniball leads too and they don't break. They're not the darkest colors for writing (although blue is ok) but nice for underlining or drawing. The eraser does a perfect job on the 2B lead totally erasing it like it was never there. The eraser can even erase most of the colored lead which isn't usually easily erasable. I'm not sure a better pencil exists outside of the expensive japanese imports, but even they have tiny erasers. Pentel should keep this exact mechanical design with all their future pencils but offer more updated designs and grip styles. You can't go wrong getting this pencil, but whatever you do don't get a plastic mechanical pencil.
