Leave a mark that is uniquely yours with the Kuretake Karappo. Named after the Japanese word for "empty," the Karappo is an empty pen that you can fill with your own custom color made with the Kuretake Ink-Café Ink Mixing Kit!

This set includes five pens featuring a fine felt brush tip. A 0.4 mm fineliner version is also available.

To fill the pen, take the included wick core and dip one end in the ink. You will see the ink rising up the wick as it is absorbed. When the wick is about 80% full, pull it out and wipe off any ink from the outside. Insert the wick into the pen, then insert the included stopper behind it. Press down on the stopper until it snaps securely into place. The pen includes two round label stickers that you can mark with the ink and add to the top and bottom of the pen.

It takes about 2 to 2.5 ml of ink to fill an empty pen.

Notes:

  • Ink is not included.
  • Karappo pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink, but for best performance, Kuretake recommends using it with ink from their Ink-Café Ink Mixing Kit.
  • Once the stopper is in place, it cannot be removed.

Wonderful pens. I've been searching for a custom, refillable pen with a fine brush nib like this for a long time. The fine brush nib is perfect for making varied line widths easily. I sketch and illustrate using a fairly unique DIY ink blend, and these kinds of empty pens are essential for that purpose.

It's easy to fill this pen with ink. Just dip one end of the wick into the inkwell and wait for it to soak up. Then just drop the wick into the pen and close it off with the end caps to push the wick into the nib feed.

It's possible to refill the used wick too. Just use a razor to carefully pry the end cap off and add a couple drops of ink from end to re-saturate the wick.

These are so fun to add a new way to play with my fountain pen inks. The brush tips can't hold up to kid use - I accidentally let one of my kids use one and now the brush tip doesn't flex anymore - but overall I like these.

Kuretake Karappo Empty Brush Pen with Wick - Fine - Pack of 5. I have really been enjoying putting fountain pen ink in the Kurtake Karappo Empty Felt Tip pens with Wicks. I like having many colors to write with, but am not ready to get [back] into fountain pens. Although the instructions say that you can not refill these, I have found that using a small pen knife, you can pry up the end cap, and using a pair of tweezers remove the wick & re-saturate it. I was not as successful at using an ink syringe to refill a wick.

The Brush tip of the Kuretake Karappo Empty Brush Pens with Wick is pretty short (I measure at 4.5mm) and fairly hard. I'm not much at brush lettering, but I bought these to fill with pale fountain pen ink to use as highlighters, and they work well for that
